Escape

The attack came suddenly. From the fringes of swirling gas the Raiders struck. Metal boots on metal hull as las-torches burned through the thick walls of habitat GN-01. The vacuum of air sucked man, woman and child to the very last into the void of space.

Colm had foreseen this. Year after year he had pleaded with the local authorities, year after year he had been cast aside. There had been no increase to patrols on the fringes of GN-01s controlled space. No vac-sealed anti-boarding police. So Colm set about acquiring parts, assembling.

It had taken all the last five long years and it still wasn't ready. Small and cramped, enough room to stretch out in but not enough to stand. Equipped with three months of supplies for survival and preloaded with his entire media library. The emergency beacon would kick off in a week. The raiders wouldn't care about one little blip on the radar but it wasn't worth drawing undue attention. He climbed into his escape pod and shot into the inky black, leaving one lonely metal box for another.

(sounds a lot like he's entering quarantine!)

Thanks again for your time and attention!

It does sound like entering quarantine. I wish it was shorter than 3 months. Nice tension.
