I awoke startled in the suffocating darkness, feeling the coffin boards pressing against my chest.
Another year without being able to rest, anguished for not having been able to get married.
My beloved was to see me in my wedding dress.
I longed to put the ring on my finger and say the vows that were left pending when that fateful stumble took my life.
Tears slid down my haggard face as I prayed that, as I appeared before him tonight, I would be able to see beyond my deplorable appearance and recognize the remains of the bride I once was.
Only then could I rest in peace.
