Sometimes we treat conversations like battles, where one must win and the other lose. But I’ve learned that some things aren’t up for debate at all. Like respect, honesty, and kindness—they are basic pillars that don’t need arguing. Years ago, I argued with a close friend over something trivial and ended up hurting our bond. Later, I told them, “It’s not a debate,” meaning that friendship and understanding matter more than proving a point. That moment changed how I communicate—I listen more, argue less, and choose peace over pride. It’s a lesson I carry today: not everything is about who’s right, sometimes it’s about what’s right for the heart.
