The Deadly Situation

The deadly situation - no kidding. We were there last week when a crazy storm hit San Diego and people got swept away in their cars, their houses were filled with water and some had to climb on the roof and wait to be rescued.
The long-term impact is pretty deadly, too. Many cars got swept up in the sudden rivers that used to be streets.
Once a car is submerged all the precious and mostly deadly juices that make automobiles do what they do, now gets mixed with the water, sinks into the soil, will either reach the ocean or the ground water. Yikes.
Well, I spend that day knee deep in water clearing the drainage to allow the water to run through. The yard was completely flooded - but we were the lucky ones.
No water in the house. We didn’t have to rip up the floors and rip out the walls to try to dry everything before black mold makes the flooded home their home.
I only got wet and tired. Not so bad.
Today, I spend the day making sure that there is nothing in the way of the water we expect to come from the sky tomorrow. A 100% chance of rain. And in one of those hours, we are supposed to get an inch of downpour.
Happy days. Or should I say wet days…

Sort:

Flood or fire - is one worse than another? Floods may be easier to survive, and flooded homes may be salvagable, but fire...
I'm sorry you're going through this!!!!
Rarely do I speak of the flood of 1993 (8 inches deep of raw sewage in the finished basement, after a summer of wet basement and saying "At least it wasn't sewage, and it least the baby wasn't born yet")
AND I WILL SAY NO MORE
Just, I feel for you!! And wish you clear skies and lots of drying sunshine, soon.

oh no!! That sounds terrible!!
And i am with you. Fires are probably more deadly. But both, the floods and fires are made worse by our actions (or inactions)

Scary stuff! Many years ago I was living in a basement apartment in Amsterdam when one snowy New Year's Eve the waterpipe on the street burst and within minutes the water in my apartment was up to my waist.

May your home remain dry, may the sky cease to leak and may February bring more clement weather.

Oh, what a terrifying and stressful image - I'm glad it's past, and that you have a photo for "bragging rights" (wrong word, I know).

Suffice to say I'll never again live in a basement!

That must have been scary!!
I think we often forget how powerful water is!

Oh, this is a really unpleasant situation. At times like this, the only thing on our minds is, if not me, then who?
I hope the roof of your house wasn't damaged. It's worth inspecting when the weather subsides to minimize possible damage from moisture penetration.
The main thing is that everything is intact, the rest can be repaired!
Good luck to you in overcoming this unpleasantness!

Thank you. So far, so good. We are having a whole week of rain and storms which is unusual for this area. But we have been lucky.

So glad you are all right ... please stay safe!

Thank you! Same to you. It seems that all of California is being hit with storms right now.

Is the flooding common there? Hoping everyone are safe.

More so now since we are getting rain now in short very heavy rain events. And much more of the area is build up - so less places for water to sink into the ground.
But this one was special...

It was really a deadly situation truly. Glad you guys were protected

we were okay - but many lost their cars and even their houses.

Hope you all are well. You all can handle it keep doing

It is best to stay indoors during this season

Did the drainage take care of that ocean of water?

I keep my finger crossed for you and all those fighting high water.

❤️🍀

We were okay. Our house is up high and we are on top of a hill. People further down didn't do so well.

Good to hear, I hope those downhill received help.

🍀❤️
