The Unexpected Call of Duty

A sudden call to meet the founder, it was almost check-out time for our office day. These kinda meetings often offend me as they keep us stuck even after office time, not always, but often. So with lots of despair, I went ahead.

He started well, talked about my day to day stress, workload, and so on. And suddenly, guess what, gave me the good news that I had been waiting eagerly for almost a year, an offer that I am more than happy with which went beyond my expectations. I immediately thanked the Almighty and expressed my gratitude. We talked for almost an hour. The founder and I, over tons of matters, discovered tons of facts that was confusing to me.

The thing is, it's better late than never. Just like each and every company, the management makes mistakes, takes wrong decisions without even thinking from the side of an employee. This resulted in the departure of one of the oldest employees. Just one? Over the last few months, another left, heard of another who is gonna leave as well, and just two days back, another submitted the resignation later. Two have already left, one submitted the letter officially, and another is on the unofficial list. All four of them are the core old members.

Why is it like this? What about us?

Actually, the friction started when they took away our flexibility by removing the hybrid mode to implementing full on-site. We all were frustrated and were ready to quit, but in reality, we didn't have the guts to do that at that time, but one did. They went ahead and kept enforcing a few policies or work mismatches that resulted in burnouts, boredom, and so on. They didn't learn from the first guy's departure, so another went. They got shaken a little bit, and tried to fill the places for replacement, but the guys couldn't cope up with the complexity of the workload and resigned after wasting time and money.

After the last two departures kinda shaken badly, and that's the reward I got. How? With the rate of old employees' departure, what if I walk that way? Follow the old traits? That's what they feared. So far, I'm handling the task of two people, so the pressure is kinda high. Also, there is no one who can replace the responsibilities that I do at this time, that to of two people. So to keep me hooked on her, they took this initiative and kinda impressed me. I will be staying here.

But why didn't I or others leave as well?

Actually, it depends on many factors. Sometimes we feel guilty for the first war where we lost one; we were meant to be together, protest, and win. But we had chosen peace, inda lo. The fact is, if we were driven by our emotions, not logic, then we would have been in deep shit; we are in deep shit, but coming out of that slowly. Those who did had backups or the ability to get placed in somewhere else; we hadn't, and so had to undergo even more.

By the time people started to overcome the barriers and make it out, they got to realise and pull the plug. The first hook is on our tech lead, and then on mine. We two were the prime target for them to save, and they kinda got us. They have arrangements for others as well, and I would say this was a great move. Though they were late, at least they did.

So Alhamdulillah for everything, I'm not gonna sit on this. My aggressive growth is what made me capable of this, if i end up losing this aggressiveness on learning and making an impact, I might get stuck again. There are a few challenges set for the tech lead, if he is able to do that, he gonna get some rewards as well. And he needs me to accomplish them, so I'm gonna help, he might vouch for me in case of needs.

So yeah, that's how life is going on, kinda excited. The coming days should be smooth as per the wishes of the Almighty.
