This is my post for #freewriters Tuesday prompt dangerous territory hosted by @mariannewest

The above picture is of Sebastian Inlet. This is where I grew up. It is known for being dangerous territory. There is a sign before entering this part that says to not enter unless you have local knowledge. Many boaters have lost their boats to this inlet.

One way boaters get into trouble is, they start out the inlet and get into the rough parts, then they try to turn around and go back into the river. When they turn their boat sideways, that is when the trouble starts, and waves overtake them. It is best to slowly make your way on through it then wait it out in the ocean until the tide changes. The flood tide is always the best tide for navigating the inlet.

If you need to come in on the ebb tide, do not do it too fast, you want to stay behind a wave, adjusting your speed as you go, if you go over a wave you will nose dive and most likely sink your boat.

The ebb tide is when the water is going out to the ocean. The flood tide is when it is coming into the river.

Just south of the south jetty is what is known as Monster Hole. It used to be the best place to surf on the entire east coast of Florida. Then "they" extended the north jetty and ruined it. They still surf here but it is not as good as it once was.
