@Mariannewest's Freewriting Prompt - Characteristically Quiet

I order a glass of wine, and go sit by myself at a table in the corner. One sip in and I'm not at a pub, I'm in a live action reality TV show.

People assume that because you sit alone you are invisible. Ha, nope that just makes everyone else more obvious.

At the table next to me I can hear a mother in law giving passive aggressive insults disguised as helpful advice "maybe try not too fuss over him every time he cries, some moms over do it" the daughter in law puts on a fake smile.

A few tables down a break up is brewing, the man drops the famous 'it's not you it's me' line & is staring at the bottom of his glass like its going to give him more courage.

In the corner is the secret affair couple, trying to be discreet, but their guilt is like a spotlight over them.

And behind me a group of girls explode into fits of laughter the second their friend goes too the bathroom. "someone her size can't pull off those trousers'.

I take another sip of my drink.

I look up and the woman from the secret affair table notices me watching them. Her eyes widen, panicking. I can practically hear her thoughts running through every possible scenario, 'Do I know her husband? Am I a threat? Has she just been caught?

I smile into my glass and think, 'don't worry your secret is safe with me, I'm just here for the show'
