I kept saying “don’t touch it” to anyone who would listen to me. I was telling them not to touch the drama du jour, to not attach to whether or not a story in the news were true or false, to not touch it at all. Our attention to this shit show is what feeds it, keeps it alive. Step out of the shit show, look at it from the outside.
This is politics: get your life right here! You just have to put this colorful little bumper sticker on your car “we believe in…” and make it your mantra. We make it easy for you, no thought necessary, so you have more time to work and pay taxes, more time to shop and pay taxes, more time to be in the home you pay taxes on, and best of all you get to pay taxes on everything about the car you use to go to work in the first place.
So that was in my dream, “don’t touch it.” There was nothing in my dream about taxes, that was a little rant I went on. Hopefully some of the readers will recognize that we are being raped by taxation.
The apocalypse will not come if we stop touching the stories we are being told by those who want to usher in the apocalypse. There are such folks you know, whether lizard, cyborg or fully human. Whether they are currently bombing Yemen, Qatar, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine or Iran and I am sure I have left out a few, or sleeping in their childhood beds.
Perhaps none of us is fully human anymore, especially if we are touching the stories, making them our own, devolving from human to humanoid.
I haven't written a freewrite in forever, it seems. This one is about the things that are most frequently on my mind these days. It's time to be on your toes people! Have options!
This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is her dream.

This is indeed a compelling freewrite.
The metaphor "don't touch it" works well, the less we engage with manufactured drama, the less power it holds.
This is a thought provoking reminder to step back, observe, and choose wisely where we invest our attention.
💯💯
True! Well said! Thanks for stopping by.
You're welcome
I try not to touch it!
I try not to even look at it very much....LOL
I enjoyed reading and the rant. We all need a little one now and then.
Freewriting is a good place to rant. I can't seem to help myself these days. Glad you enjoyed it!
I actually touch the news a lot, but that's because I have developed a superpower, touching but not really giving two fucks. But mostly touching for entertainment and to observe like an eagle who swoops down every once in a while but not overly interested in the lithosphere 😀😈
The news makes me embarassed for humankind! I never watch it. But you got the reason for politics right - it's nothing more than entertainment for the masses, population control.
I read the NYTimes every single day, and have for 50 years. I used to believe every word, now I read it just to be up on what lies we are being told. I suppose that is touching it.
Wow! Well, cool. You clearly have the superpower too 😎
GREAT to see you back with a freewrite, @owasco!!!!
Reading the "news" just to see what lies are being told. Yup.
I still read the headlines.
-- Bluetooth is tracking you even when your GPS is off.
-- Florida's $9 billion orange crop may not survive an incurable disease that threatens to wipe out citrus groves throughout the United States.
-- After years of crippling rheumatoid arthritis, Lynn Milam got her life back thanks to a lima bean–size nerve stimulator implanted in her neck. It zaps her vagus nerve once a day, dialing down the immune system’s overreaction. The FDA just approved it...
Also, The Watchtower - yes, I read it! - though you all know I'm not JW, nor a Mormon, nor a Seventh Day Adventist, nor even a good Catholic (still waiting for Blaise Pascal to win that wager!), but I read their publications.
(Mormon) President Russell M. Nelson celebrates milestone 101st birthday:
Sep 9, 2025 According to Church officials, at 101, Nelson is the oldest living leader of a global church.
That's just a fraction of the daily "news" I consume, and no, I can't say I'm any smarter or at all "well informed" -- just, curious, concerned, and wavering between despair and crippling futility. :)
So, yeah, maybe a news blackout would be constructive for me?
Carol! So nice to have you here!
I never ever watch the news, it sickens me, all those cyborgs spouting the exact same tripe. I cannot do it. But I can read the news, get the gist and skim. The NYTimes has the funniest news if you ask me, I am always entertained but this or that. They are so rabidly leftie that it is no longer news. The Times is a propaganda rag for the Democratic party.
xoxoxoxo
Live, but not be absorbed in 💩. That's the proper "mantra" 🙂
But don't live in a bubble and think everything is going to stop if we do that, it will be like the ostrich that buries its head in the sand.
To believe that what we are being told is the same as having ones head buried in the sand. Listen to everyone, believe no one.
