RE: Don't Touch It, an admonition

in Freewriters3 days ago

The news makes me embarassed for humankind! I never watch it. But you got the reason for politics right - it's nothing more than entertainment for the masses, population control.

I read the NYTimes every single day, and have for 50 years. I used to believe every word, now I read it just to be up on what lies we are being told. I suppose that is touching it.

Wow! Well, cool. You clearly have the superpower too 😎

GREAT to see you back with a freewrite, @owasco!!!!

Reading the "news" just to see what lies are being told. Yup.
I still read the headlines.
-- Bluetooth is tracking you even when your GPS is off.
-- Florida's $9 billion orange crop may not survive an incurable disease that threatens to wipe out citrus groves throughout the United States.
-- After years of crippling rheumatoid arthritis, Lynn Milam got her life back thanks to a lima bean–size nerve stimulator implanted in her neck. It zaps her vagus nerve once a day, dialing down the immune system’s overreaction. The FDA just approved it...

Also, The Watchtower - yes, I read it! - though you all know I'm not JW, nor a Mormon, nor a Seventh Day Adventist, nor even a good Catholic (still waiting for Blaise Pascal to win that wager!), but I read their publications.

During September 2025, Jehovah’s Witnesses are making a worldwide effort to share the Bible’s answers to the following questions: Why have mankind’s efforts to end war failed? How can you be sure that true peace is possible and will soon become a reality? We are distributing this article and the magazine that it is a part of in over 450 languages.

(Mormon) President Russell M. Nelson celebrates milestone 101st birthday:
Sep 9, 2025 According to Church officials, at 101, Nelson is the oldest living leader of a global church.

That's just a fraction of the daily "news" I consume, and no, I can't say I'm any smarter or at all "well informed" -- just, curious, concerned, and wavering between despair and crippling futility. :)

So, yeah, maybe a news blackout would be constructive for me?

Carol! So nice to have you here!

I never ever watch the news, it sickens me, all those cyborgs spouting the exact same tripe. I cannot do it. But I can read the news, get the gist and skim. The NYTimes has the funniest news if you ask me, I am always entertained but this or that. They are so rabidly leftie that it is no longer news. The Times is a propaganda rag for the Democratic party.
