Hello everyone
Clara, a dedicated English teacher at Sunshine Secondary School in Lagos, loved teaching her JSS2 students Things Fall Apart. One morning, her phone buzzed, her sister in Abuja said their mother had a sudden illness and needed Clara urgently. Clara hated missing her classes; her students were preparing for exams, and she always kept them engaged. But she couldn’t tell the strict headmistress, Mrs. Ade, without causing a fuss.
In the staff room, Clara spotted her friend Flora, the mathematics teacher, sipping tea. “Flora, would you like to swop lessons today? I’ll take your maths classes tomorrow if you handle my English class this afternoon,” Clara whispered. Flora saw the worry in Clara’s eyes and nodded. “Okay, I’ll cover for you. Just go.” Clara thanked her, handed over her lesson notes, and hurried to catch a bus to Abuja. In Abuja, Clara spent the day with her sister, helping their mother, who was weak but improving with treatment. They cooked soup and kept her comfortable, easing Clara’s worries.
Back at Sunshine Secondary, Flora used Clara’s notes to teach the students about Okonkwo, keeping them busy with questions and discussions. The students enjoyed the lesson, and Mrs. Ade didn’t notice Clara’s absence. Flora’s calm handling of the class kept everything smooth, and the students stayed on track with their exam prep. Clara returned to Lagos the next day, grateful her mother was better. She brought Flora a bowl of pepper soup as thanks and took over her morning maths class
