My heavy eyelids opened up to the gray of the ceiling, and I immediately closed them back. Maybe, if I stayed in bed long enough, I could hibernate through this madness and wake up when it was over.
A little while later my phone buzzed. I took it off my desk and slid up. It was The Girl Crew. I refused to ignore them, so I joined the call.
“Lord whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?” Nina drawled out as soon as the video chat loaded in. Her silk bonnet was sliding off her head and she had an open bag of chips beside her.
I shook my head. “Fatty…”
“You just mad you ain’t got no more snacks in yo’ room, miss string-bean arms.” Nina clapped back, putting a chip into her mouth.
“Calm down y’all. We are not just gon’ be up here discriminat’n each other.” Zari said from the bottom half of my screen. Her attention was elsewhere, probably on her mirror as she was applying her fake lashes to her eyes.
“Dang. 6 am and you already putting on makeup?” I yawned. “You won’t be able to go anywhere, anyway. It’s a global plague, remember?”
“It’s 8, Shay. And yes, I’m putting on makeup, but not to leave my dorm. Since we can’t go no where I’m gonna try all the silly makeup I can. Don’t be mad you’re not as cute as me!”
