At one corner of pa Ejike's room, sat an elegant set of drum. Pa Ejike stayed alone, all his kids where now grown adult and had moved to there various homes and houses in the city.
The drum set was a ultimate reminder of Pa Ejike's childhood. He had learnt to play drums when he was very much young and had played it for years. He could still play but his legs would not stand the pressure for long, because he was already old. His muscle weren't as strong as in his childhood anymore.
Pa Ejike had wished to train at least a person before or two before he joins his ancestors. unfortunately, he had not seen anyone who showed interest in learning.
Ikenna, Pa Ejike's grandson had always wanted to visit the village and stay with his grandpa for holiday, fortunately for him an opportunity came when he passed his common entrance exams and his dad promised to do anything he asked of him. Ike as his mom usually calls him, immediately requested that he spends his august holiday with his grandpa. Dike couldn't say no, his words where his bound, so Ikr got prepared and moved to stay with grandpa.
Ike was super excited to have such opportunity and didn't fail to show it.
On getting to the village, he settled in with the life in it and of cause he settle fine with grandpa's help. Grandpa had a culture of putting on the radio to listen to news in the morning before putting on the TV in the house. Ike immediately got adopted to the system too.
One fateful day, Ike was listening to the radio with his grandpa, when he heard about a music competition, he has seen the advertisement online, he jokingly told grandpa he would have loved to join since it was happening in the village and in their community, but he had not learnt any musical instrument, so he obviously he had no chance in such competition.
Grandpa saw how sad Ike became at the sound of that, and promised to teach him how to beat the drum. The teaching started almost immediately, because from the news it was just a one week competition being sponsored by the government in their community. Ike, put in all his interest and he learned it well.
Fast like a racing car, the day for the competition came. Ike did his best and came out one of the best up till the final.
At the last minute, he forgot his keys, grandpa began to hum a song to his hearing and scream beat the the drum son at that moment Ike fear and everything blew away, he did awesomely well. Finishing as the first best with a scholarship to cover his education till masters. Grandpa was really proud he had taught one big heart how to beat the drums and that was accomplishment in his eyes.
