Church girl

She sat at the front pew of the church. Her hands clasped in front of her on her laps. Her eyes were settled on the church choir as they sang the congregational hymn.

She wore a pink floral dress with a white church crown. Her hands were covered with pink gloves and she wore pink heels too.

Rachie as she was fondly called beamed as the choir sang melodiously. It was her favourite hymn: Rock of Ages and she sang along with the choristers.

Her eyes shifted from the choir to the pastor. He was Chubby with a big tummy which shook as he tapped his feet and nodded as the choristers sang.

She giggled and covered her mouth. Her mom nudged her and she fixated on the choir.

Rachie had never missed a Sunday service since she was a kid. Her mom would dress her every morning for church service as early as seven a.m.

She grew up being accustomed to it. She was very active in church, always ready to help and volunteer in every activity. She was loved by everyone; old and young in the church.

Church service ended up quicker than usual. Everybody rose to their feet to say the grace in fellowship and leave for their homes. Rachie wasn't ready to leave. She had to say hi to someone.

She stopped by to greet Pa. Gray who was the oldest man in the church. He was eighty-year-old but was strong for a man of his age.

"Good morning, Pa. Gray. How are you doing today?" she held his hand.

"I am fine, dearest Rachie," he said, with a broad grin on his face. " Did you enjoy church?"

"Yes, I did. What about you?" she asked.

"I did too." He nodded as he supported himself with his walking stick.

" I am glad you did. I will stop by your house this evening."

"Thank you, my dear."

" I will get you some chocolate cakes," she said.

He broke into a small laugh. " Chocolate cakes are for kids. I am not a kid." He pulled her left cheek fondly.

"Then, I will get you something else." She shrugged slightly.

"Okay, Rachie. Anything." He waved a hand.

She planted a kiss on his forehead. "See you soon. I have to hurry along before mom starts calling." She sped off in the direction of her mom.
