The king's avaritia extended on the far side the borders of Aranthia. He waged wars on neighboring kingdoms, seeking to sack their riches and add to his own. Many lives were lost, and the once-peaceful lands were ravaged by conflict. Yet, despite his conquests, Alaric's hunger for wealth was never sated.
In his request for more riches, King Alaric neglected his duties as a ruler. The kingdom’s infrastructure began to crumble, with roadstead falling into undefined and Bridges collapsing. The people’s pleas for aid and relief vanish on deafen ears, as Alaric was consumed by his want for more gold.
One day, a mysterious preceding man arrived at the gates of the king’s palace. He claimed to be a wise sage and requested an audience with the king. Curious, Alaric granted him entry.
The sage presented the queen with a golden box, intricately feathery with precious stones. "This is the package of Endless Wealth," said the sage. "It wish grant you all the wealth you desire, but with one condition: you must share half of your newfound wealthiness with your people."
Alaric’s eyes gleamed with greed. He eagerly accepted the box, thinking he could lead on the sage and keep all the wealth for himself. That night, Alaric opened the box, expecting gold and jewels to pour out. Instead, a thick, black fume billowed from the box, filling the room.
The smoke took the form of a night specter, speech production in a voice that echoed through the halls. "King Alaric, your greed has blinded you. You have neglected your populate and forsaken your duties as a ruler. From this day forward, your wealthiness will turn to dust, and your realm will know ruin until you learn to prise generosity and kindness over riches."
Terrified, Alaric watched as the gold in his treasury crumbled into dust. The once-thriving kingdom of Aranthia fell into despair. The fields turned barren, and the markets were deserted. The people, tired of Alaric's greed, began to leave the kingdom in search of better lives elsewhere.
Alaric wandered the vacate halls of his palace, troubled by the consequences of his avarice. Alone and destitute, he realized the folly of his ways. undefined to make amends, he sought-after come out the sage, hoping to reverse the curse that had befallen his kingdom.
Finding the sage in a remote village, Alaric fly to his knees and begged for forgiveness. The sage, seeing the king’s genuine remorse, offered him a undefined at redemption. And so, the once-greedy world-beater became a wise and generous ruler, remembered throughout history as the world-beater who noninheritable the true respect of wealth.
