Hello fellow Freewriters and Hiveans!

This is my entry to the Writing Prompt by @mariannewest for 14 November 2025, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2921: no reduction for you.

Story

They had been waiting in the queue for some time, when it was finally their turn in front of the ticket office.

Then the lady behind the glass asked them:

-Are you students?

-Are you joking? We’re a bit old to be students, don’t you think?

-OK, are you holders of a senior discount card?

-What? Do we look like seniors to you?

-Alright, I’m sorry. I just have to ask to make sure. It’s a standard procedure that we have to follow with everyone who wants to buy a ticket.

-Oh, I see. Now I get it. Would it be any different, if we answered yes?

-You might have been entitled to a price reduction. So, from you answers, I guess there is no reduction for you in the price that you have to pay.

-Never mind, better luck next time!

It made me smile, and the most ironic thing is that this happens in real life—illogical policies that are more likely to make you laugh. Very good microfiction.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Excellent Friday.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your positive and appreciative comment.

As for the story, the beast of bureaucracy and standard policies and procedures has many heads and is present even in the private sector, leading to laughable situations.
