Since our ancestors, life has always been based on myths, legends and beliefs that generation after generation have been instilled in us. I was born in Venezuela, where my parents raised me, in a town called Puerto Cabello, and I remember that when I was a child, my grandparents would always tell me a story when we were passing by a specific street in the area where we lived. I had some story for my brothers and me, because almost always the grandparents are the ones who take their grandchildren to school, to their activities, because mom and dad are busy working. And the reality is that, from the grandparents, we almost always heard those myths, legends, beliefs of the place or of some person who lived many years ago in the area. But many times it was difficult to question the story, it was very difficult to demystify what they told us, but there was always the doubt in us and the big question arose. Is that true, grandfather? And they, with their firm voice and with a very serious face, would answer of course yes, my dear grandson. But almost always the conversation ended in laughter and laughter.
Desde nuestros antepasados siempre la vida se ha basado en mitos, leyendas y creencias que generación tras generación nos han venido inculcando. Nací en Venezuela, allí me criaron mis padres, en un pueblo llamado Puerto Cabello, y recuerdo que cuando era chico, mis abuelos siempre cuando íbamos pasando por alguna calle en específico del sector donde vivíamos. Tenía algún cuento para mis hermanos y para mí, pues casi siempre los abuelos son los que llevan a sus nietos, al colegio, a sus actividades, porque papá y mamá están ocupados trabajando. Y la realidad es que, por parte de los abuelos, casi siempre escuchamos esos mitos, leyendas, creencias del lugar o de alguna persona que vivió hace muchos años en el sector. Pero que muchas veces era difícil de cuestionar el cuento, era muy difícil de desmitificar, lo que ellos nos decían, pero siempre estaba la duda en nosotros y surgía la gran pregunta. ¿Eso es verdad, abuelo? Y ellos, con su voz firme y con cara muy seria, nos respondían claro sí, mi querido nieto. Pero casi siempre la conversación terminaba en risas y carcajadas.
A myth is a belief, about something or someone, that may not always be based in reality and that many times has been transmitted by the human being from generation to generation. These myths take root in the towns where we reside and when we go through the place, which tends to be remembered by that myth or legend, we quickly become prey to those thoughts, that sometimes depending on that myth, belief or legend, we panic if it is something scary. I remember that since I was a child, we Venezuelan people grew up with the myths and legends of the llorona, the sayona, the hanged man, Florentine and the devil, and many others that belong to some people of our beautiful country and that never cease to be present. They are already part of our lives and will continue their course forever in the human being. They cause us emotions and sensations different from those we are used to feel. But not all of them are macabre and dark, there are myths and stories that we have liked since we were children and that mom and dad used to tell us at bedtime or when we were all together in the living room.
Un mito es una creencia, sobre algo o alguien, que no siempre puede estar basada en la realidad y que muchas veces se ha transmitido por el ser humano de generación en generación. Estos mitos se arraigan en los pueblos donde residimos y cuando vamos pasando por el lugar, que tiende a ser recordado por ese mito o leyenda, rápidamente nos convertimos en presa de esos pensamientos, que en ocasiones dependiendo de ese mito, creencia o leyenda, entramos en pánico si se trata de algo tenebroso. Recuerdo que desde muy chico los pueblos venezolanos, crecimos con los mitos y leyendas de la llorona, la sayona, el ahorcado, florentino y el diablo, y así como esos muchos, que pertenecen a algún pueblo de nuestro hermoso país y que nunca dejan de estar presentes. Ya forman parte de nuestras vidas y que seguirán su curso por siempre en el ser humano. Ellos nos causan emociones y sensaciones distintas a las que estamos acostumbradas a sentir. Pero no todos son macabros y tenebrosos, hay mitos y cuentos que desde niños nos han gustado y que papá y mamá nos contaban a la hora de dormir o a la hora de estar reunidos todos en la sala de la casa.

The truth is something very complex, because surely these would help us to get closer and understand our reality, reaching a point of minimum reduction of our ignorance, opening a range of probabilities that leads us to self-criticism, but for this we must investigate on the subject, we must seek information about what we want to demystify. We must try to get to the initial point of what we are dealing with, beware, it is not an easy task. Since it is something that dates back many years and we do not know if there is documentation as such. But it is always important to analyze the data found and thus make decisions along the way of research, always considering all the points of view that may arise on the subject and thus go scrutinizing the myth or legend that we are trying to demystify.
Ahora bien, cuando hablamos de que queremos tratar de desmitificar ese mito o creencia. La verdad es algo muy complejo, pues seguramente estos nos ayudarían a acercarnos y comprender más nuestra realidad, llegando a un punto de reducción mínima de nuestra ignorancia, abriendo un abanico de probabilidades que nos conlleve la autocrítica, pero para esto debemos de investigar sobre el tema, debemos de buscar información sobre lo que queremos desmitificar. Hay que tratar de llegar al punto inicial de lo que estamos tratando, ojo, no es una tarea fácil. Ya que es algo que data de muchos años y no sabemos si hay documentación como tal. Pero siempre es importante ir analizando datos encontrados y así ir tomando decisiones en el camino de la investigación, siempre considerando todos los puntos de vista que pueden surgir en cuanto al tema y de esta manera ir escudriñando ese mito o leyenda del cual estamos tratando de desmitificar.
The Venezuelan is a storyteller by nature, for everything he has something to tell, an anecdote to tell, he is always with his jocularity. That is why myths, legends and beliefs will always be with us, some of them credible, others we see as a bit amazing, but there they are, to make us laugh, to make us cry with fear. But they are moments and situations that are part of us, human beings. Some people who are dedicated to these, are applauded because they have that gift to tell us every story about some myth of the sector. They do it with so much emotion and with so much security, that we always end up believing in all those road tales. But that's how we grew up, that's how we continue our life among myths and legends, from one side to the other, that are difficult to demystify and that will always live forever in our minds, as part of the culture and beliefs of our ancestors.
El venezolano es cuentero por naturaleza, para todo tiene algo que contar, una anécdota que decir, siempre está con su jocosidad. Es por ello que los mitos, leyendas y creencias, siempre van a estar entre nosotros, algunas creíbles, otras las vemos como un tanto asombrosas, pero allí están, para hacernos reír, para hacernos llorar de miedo. Pero son momentos y situaciones que forman parte de nosotros, los seres humanos. Algunas personas que se dedican a estos, se les aplaude porque tiene ese don para echarnos, cada cuento sobre algún mito del sector. Pues lo hacen con tanta emoción y con tanta seguridad, que siempre terminamos creyendo en todos esos cuentos de caminos. Pero así crecimos, así continuamos la vida entre mitos y leyendas, de un lado a otro, que son difíciles de desmitificar y que siempre vivirán por siempre en nuestras mentes, como parte de la cultura y creencias de nuestros antepasados.
