Restless and troubled, I awaited what was about to befall me, several thoughts running through my mind.
I was sweating profusely, not even the coolness of the air conditioners could help me. I think people were beginning to stare at me. The receptionist must have wondered what was happening to me. I'm glad she kept quiet though, minding her business. I tried to call Michael once more, but got the same response
It was a long wait, but finally, the receptionists’ phone rings. After the call, she says...
My heart must have skipped a beat or two. I struggle with the door to the office before it finally opens. I step into the office and I'm asked to take a seat. The MD is still trying to round up the paper work he is doing and that makes me even more uneasy.
I work in the finance department of the company and recently, I was coerced to cover up a fraudulent transaction by Michael. It was not the first or second time, but I was determined that it would be the last; I sternly warned Michael. I was certain that the deal was air-tight, until Michael called me this morning and hurriedly exclaimed
“We are busted! The auditors noticed some discrepancies in our disbursements and…”
and the line went dead. Ever since, I have not been able to reach him. Is this one of his expensive jokes, or am I really in trouble?
“Kate!!! Are you okay?”
Obviously, he had called me while I was lost in thought.
Why are you sweating so much? You don't seem to be feeling too well. You should see a doctor.
The management has chosen you to go on a 2-month training in New York. Get your documents ready, you leave in two weeks. Congratulations…
I try to speak, but the words won't come, while I'm still thinking...
