Title: Reject It

in Freewriters2 months ago (edited)

My mummy always told my sister not to collect things from strangers. But my sister? She never listens. Me? I follow mummy’s words because I don’t want any wahala.

One sunny morning, I was walking to school when I saw my sister Sarah begging a boy for something. I asked my friend Divine, “Who’s that boy?” She whispered, “That’s her boyfriend.”

“What?! Boyfriend?! She never told me! I’ll tell Mummy!” I shouted.

When we got to school, my sister called me to come eat with her friends, but I ignored her. I was saving my story for Mummy.

After school, I entered the bus and went home. Mummy asked, “Where is your sister?” I told her everything. Mummy’s face changed like she was ready to transform into a superhero — the scary type.

That night, Sarah came home very late and smelling funny. Mummy was not happy at all. The next day, she still didn’t change.

At school, she kept talking instead of learning. Later, I heard people shouting. Someone told me Sarah had stolen money from a bag. The principal said she would be suspended for one month unless she paid it back. Mummy and Daddy came, and ohhh, she got into big trouble.

The next day, Mummy travelled and told me to take care of my sister. I locked the door before school so she wouldn’t go out. But somehow, she still escaped. When Mummy came back and couldn’t find her, the house was like a police search party. She finally came back at night, acting strange again.

Soon after, she got very sick. We took her to the hospital, and the doctor said she had a sickness that needed treatment. She had to stay there.

Days passed, and one afternoon, Mummy came home very quiet. She told me my sister didn’t make it. I didn’t know what to say. Mummy’s eyes were red, but she hugged me tight.

I told her, “Mummy, don’t cry. I’ll be your good child and make you proud.”

From that day, I promised myself to always listen to her — because mummy’s advice is like a magic shield. And I plan to keep it forever.

The End.
