Memories For The Future

I remember the power and the confidence that I felt instantly the first time I held her.

I remember... remembering a past I had never experienced speaking to me through my blood telling me what it meant to be a father.

I remember our unspoken language and our ancient conversation.

I remember her gelling into my arm and into my soul as she rested.

I remember her dancing upon the square and my heart

I remember playing hide and seek over the span of thousands of miles and hearing her giggle as I found her.

I remember tears in the airport and smiles at Disney and remembering that dreams come true.

I remember dancing and more dancing and seeing her blossom.

I remember the pride felt from late night essays and co-written poems.

I remember busyness and struggle and perseverance and the persistent smile that always lifted my soul.

I remember her childhood and today, as she becomes an adult, I will remember that she'll always be my little girl.

The above poem was written for my daughter. She turns 18 today. She is my firstborn and I felt kind of surreal writing this poem. I started this poem for this week's poetry prompt and didn't really like the style, but it kind of forced me to reflect on some things and it brought some gravity to the situation. Man, I can't believe I raised a child into adulthood. Crazy. Well, I've got two more to go now.

Thanks for reading. Lete know what you thought.

God this is so sweet @moeknows. "Man, I can't believe I raised a child into adulthood." , this line, although not part of the poem, almost made me teary eyed, reading from a father who was once a child and now have raised his own child. Such fatherhood is boundless and timeless when it comes to love. Love is a collection of poem we make for our persons. And your daughter might be so happy and humbled to see your poems about her. You are doing a good job as a father. Through your words I can see the immense love you have for her. This is a sweet read🥺❤️

Thank for this nice comment. I really appreciate it means a lot to me.

I really liked your vivid imagery, like dancing in the square, giggles during hide and seek, and tears at the airport which evoked strong visuals. Congrats to you both.

Thank you very much!
