Ese día no teníamos ninguna actividad del Jubileo, así que aprovechamos la mañana para ir al Coliseo. Fuimos en metro y, cuando salimos en la estación Colosseo, lo primero que vimos fue el Coliseo ahí, enorme, justo frente a nosotros. Yo no lo había visto antes, ni siquiera de lejos, así que fue bastante impresionante.
Además hacía bastante calor, así que ya pueden imaginar mi outfit: franela de color claro, shorts, una carterita, una botellita de agua y muchas ganas de conocer.
That day we didn’t have any Jubilee activities, so we took the morning to visit the Colosseum. We went by metro and, when we came out at the Colosseo station, the first thing we saw was the Colosseum right there—huge, directly in front of us. I had never seen it before, not even from afar, so it was pretty impressive.
It was also really hot, so you can already imagine my outfit: light-colored t-shirt, shorts, a little purse, a bottle of water, and lots of excitement to explore.
Yo iba convencida de que no íbamos a poder entrar porque en TikTok todo el mundo dice que hay que reservar con antelación, que las colas son imposibles y que en verano es peor. Y bueno, además estábamos en Jubileo, o sea, millones de peregrinos en Roma. Pero sorprendentemente si pudimos entrar, la cola solo duró unos 20 minutos, así que compramos la entrada en la taquilla y listo.
I was convinced that we wouldn't be able to get in because everyone on TikTok says you have to book in advance, that the queues are impossible, and that it's even worse in summer. And well, it was also Jubilee, which meant millions of pilgrims in Rome. But surprisingly, we were able to get in, the queue only took about 20 minutes, so we bought our tickets at the ticket office and that was it.
Algo que me gustó mucho fue que hace meses yo había hecho un dibujito con IA de nosotros frente al Coliseo (como para visualizar como nos veríamos en Roma 😅) y ahora estábamos exactamente ahí, tomándonos la foto real.
Something I really liked was that months ago I had made a little drawing with AI of us in front of the Colosseum (just to visualize what we would look like in Rome 😅) and now we were exactly there, taking the real photo.
Una vez adentro tuve tiempo de pensar en todo lo que pasó allí: combates de gladiadores, animales traídos de diferentes partes del mundo para espectáculos, incluso recreaban batallas navales en un tiempo, llenando la arena de agua. Y siglos después, el Coliseo se convirtió en un lugar de oración y memoria cristiana, todo eso en un mismo espacio.
Como no teníamos guía, recurrimos a mi método oficial de viaje: “ChatGPT, hazme una guía turística resumida del Coliseo” 🤭, así íbamos leyendo y caminando. Me dio mucha curiosidad que los carteles estuvieran en italiano, inglés y chino. Y claro, después pensé que tiene sentido porque China es uno de los países que más turistas mueve en el mundo.
Once inside, I had time to think about everything that happened there: gladiator fights, animals brought from different parts of the world for shows, they even recreated naval battles at one time, filling the arena with water. And centuries later, the Colosseum became a place of Christian prayer and remembrance, all in the same space.
Since we didn't have a guide, we resorted to my official travel method: “ChatGPT, give me a summary tour guide of the Colosseum” 🤭, so we read and walked. I was very curious that the signs were in Italian, English, and Chinese. And of course, then I thought it made sense because China is one of the countries that attracts the most tourists in the world.
Nos tomamos fotos en todos los ángulos posibles, con luz, con sombra, grupales, individuales, en pareja. La entrada también permitía visitar el Palatino pero no pudimos ingresar porque ya se estaba haciendo tarde, y además teníamos mucha hambre.
We took photos from every possible angle, with light, with shadow, in groups, individually, as a couple. The ticket also allowed us to visit the Palatine Hill, but we couldn't go in because it was getting late, and we were also very hungry.
Así que al salir del Coliseo fuimos en búsqueda de un local que aceptara los tickets del peregrino, encontramos uno que no tenía prácticamente gente (claro, también está que almorzamos bastante tarde), pedimos algo que costaba un poquito más y pagamos la diferencia sin problema.
Fue así como probé la verdadera pasta carbonara, sin crema, solo huevo, pecorino, guanciale y pimienta, y sí… ahora entiendo por qué hablan tanto de la carbonara. Estaba demasiado buena.
So, when we left the Colosseum, we went in search of a place that accepted pilgrim tickets. We found one that was practically empty (of course, we also had lunch quite late), ordered something that cost a little more, and paid the difference without any problem.
That's how I tried real carbonara pasta, without cream, just egg, pecorino cheese, guanciale, and pepper, and yes... now I understand why everyone talks so much about carbonara. It was too good.
