Beach in T minus 90 days
The ocean is one of my favorite things in the entire world. I haven’t been to the beach since my trip last June for @flowerbaby’s 20th birthday. We had a blast back then, as you can see here. She was able to go on a family trip to the beach about a month after that, but neither of us have been to the ocean since. We both share the same love for the sea and miss it tremendously. At this point we do not only miss the saltwater, but also just warm weather in general. Luckily we now have one of our vacations planned for this summer.
@flowerbaby and I will be traveling to Vilano beach in the St. Augustine area of Florida from May 22-29. Neither one of us have been to this location before, but it pretty much picked us out. We weren’t left with many options since we only decided to do this 3 months in advance. Plus we had to deal with the fact that many of the east coast beaches in USA will not yet be warm enough to visit at the end of May.
We both had decided we preferred driving wherever we decided to go. Although it is a minimum of an 8 hour drive to any beach from where we live in West Virginia. This time the drive will be just over 10 hours to get to our destination on St. Augustine, FL. We picked this location for several reasons, it just made sense to us both.
Why St. Augustine?
- The weather and water should be warm even during the last week of May, so we can fully enjoy the beach and ocean.
- The waves at this beach are supposed to be big, which means we can both let the waves crash into us for hours.
- There were actually some Airbnb’s left in this area.
- Neither one of us has ever been to this beach before.
- Vilano Beach is supposed to be the quiet part of St. Augustine, but still just a few minutes from everything.
The Nest at Marsh Cottage
@flowerbaby and I had a list of about 6 places in the St. Augustine area that we found on Airbnb. Two of them were beachfront, but small and low quality. The other ones were within walking distance to the beach. We ended up deciding on The Nest. The reviews were pretty much perfect for this place besides one guest that broke a very clear rule of sneaking in extra people to stay; Obviously that person was in the wrong. We would never do anything distrustful like that, @flowerbaby and I are some of the best guests a host could ever ask for. It seems to me like we found a great place for a fair price.
It cost us $886 to book the place for 7 nights. That may seem like a lot, but it is the USA and the beginning of summer. Plus this place is really nice and comes with some many great things that we will find very useful.
Some of the best features
- Brand new kitchen filled with everything you could need to cook.
- Coffee and espresso.
- Walk in closet with a makeup mirror and table.
- Washer/dryer.
- Double sink in bathroom with a beautiful shower.
- Great interior design.
- Private deck with a grill. Outdoor
- Grotto area
- A back deck with a Gazebo and fire pit plus another grill (this is also shared with downstairs guests if there are any).
- Outdoor shower to get sand off after the beach.
- Nearby marsh nature walk.
- Private off street parking.
- Beach chairs, cooler, and umbrella.
- Right next to the bridge that takes you to the most bustling part of St. Augustine.
The rules aren’t strict, I understand having standards as a host. I’d want my place to be left in one piece after the people leave too. It seems like the married couple that own this place really take pride in what they have. I align with that a lot.
Time to check the place out
I have told you about as much as I can about this place. @flowerbaby and I haven’t planned much else besides where we are staying. We will spend the majority of our days on the beach and in the water, but I know will find many fun things to do during the evening.
In the meantime we can all fantasize about how amazing this place looks. Take a look at the photos from the listing that convinced me to book it.
We are so freaking excited!
@flowerbaby and I both are already counting down the days until we depart. The drive is long, but there’s no doubt that together we will make it and have a total blast. I look forward to sharing the things that we end up doing while we are at Vilano Beach in St. Augustine, FL.

It looks super beautiful there 😍. I wish you a great holiday in May 😁.
Thank you so much! I can’t freaking wait. I need a vacation so badly.
Do as if you were already on holiday. Do everything so that you feel like you are on holiday at home, then the long wait is bearable because you already feel good now :)
Hello Daltono dear, I live near the beach an hour away, but few times I have gone because I like other more temperate and clean waters that are on the other side of my country, even so, enjoy the breeze, the moment in front of the sea is relaxing and magnificent, now with this pandemic and so many inhibitions regarding gasoline and not being able to move from one place to another I value more this close, I wish I could be in front of the sea and breathe fresh air, thanks for the pictures, made me take a deep breath and remember good times.
Normally every year I travel on vacation to a very nice island here, but it has not been possible because of the pandemic and mobilization of the population. I am sure you and your family enjoyed such a well deserved moment of relaxation. Hugs to you.
Ah now that’s a place to visit! Looks like a great air BNB as well!

It’s so strange that the rocking chairs on the porch was the most appealing thing to me about this. I just love rocking chairs.
Looks like you’re gonna have an awesome vacation! I would totally have picked this place to, although I don’t know about the alternatives. Not only because of the rocking chairs of course.
