In addition to the Colosseum, Rome has a lot of ancient monuments. And for example today we saw three more of them. Our journey began as usual - with the subway. I know, in previous posts I didn't write about the metro, but in Rome we got especially close to this mode of transport. This is the fastest way to get to all places.
So, upon arrival, the first place we went to was, of course, the Colosseum, but I won't tell you about it today. Do you know why? For ✨intrigue✨. Okay, let's continue. After the Colosseum, we continued our walk through the large square and reached Trajan's Column. She was extremely tall. And since it was already evening, it was very beautifully illuminated by yellow light. By the way, a little about this monument. Trajan's Column - created by the architect Apollodorus of Damascus in 113 AD. e. in honor of Trajan's victories over the Dacians. The triumph of the emperor is depicted in the form of the sculptural decoration of the square, depicting Dacians and war trophies, as well as in the form of reliefs of Trajan's column, which tell the story of the conquest of Dacia.
Also in the background of Trajan was the church of Santa Maria of Loreto. The church was built between 1522 and 1573 for a baker's shop in Rome. The authorship of the project belongs to Antonio da Sangallo. The dome of the church was built in the Mannerism style. The church looks very nice. And complements the atmosphere of Rome.
And also something very beautiful can be seen from the side of the square. Do you know what it is? Vittoriano. This is a monument in honor of the first king of united Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. The construction of Vittoriano lasted from 1885 to 1935. A twelve-meter bronze equestrian statue of the king is part of the monument. Under it is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the so-called Fatherland Altar. So, after the walk, we went to a pizzeria nearby and ate a piece of pizza. It was already very late, and we went home again by subway. And don't forget to check my profile from time to time and wait for a post about the Colosseum!
Bye bye everyone! ⛪ 🏛️
