The view from the top of Sugarloaf is stunning, isn't it? I haven't gone in four years, but, the 300+ stairs? I haven't forgotten them yet.
Marquette has a healthy amount of breweries/restaurants and things to do. It is a wonderful place to spend some time in. I do love the Upper Peninsula and wish it was easier to survive for the locals. But, that is a subject for another post. I think you picked well and if @mrsbozz had more of a selection, you might have liked it better. There is nothing worse than feeling like the choice was all about you. You seem like a nice guy and not like that, so I can see why you would choose differently if you had thought about it. I did like her salad though! I do love my salads!
I'm with you nephew! His burger looked delicious! I have something about a well-made burger! Do I sense an upcoming Hivean??? Sounds like he has great potential!
I like a nice beer and both of those would warrant an order from me. I admit that I wouldn't have appreciated beer-battered whitefish! Why fool with a perfect fish?
Thanks for taking us along!!
Don't get me wrong, I love my whitefish battered, but the beer batter was just a bit too heavy for this particular fish. I didn't feel the paired well. I am sure tons of other people get it and love it though. I do love the UP. I think if I were to ever move up there I would want to be in the Marquette area. My wife would probably choose the Houghton/Hancock area except for the winter! It's not that she is a picky eater, I just know there are certain things she doesn't like so yeah, I try to make sure they have a good selection for her. After a while getting the chicken wrap over and over again gets old!
I dont think she's picky, but more selective, which is a whole different thing. I lived on fish or chicken wraps and yes, indeed, it gets old!
I love Houghton/ Hancock, but having been there in the winter? No thank you!! I would definitely live in Marquette or Munising. I love many places up there. Too bad the economy is nonexistant for locals.
Munising is nice too. It's a bit too cramped for the number of tourists though. I feel like Marquette is spread out enough that there is room for everyone. I know you have relatives in Munising so that probably makes a difference! Manistique is a nice little town too and they have a Clyde's. It's gotta be hard living there year round for all the reasons you mentioned. I see tech openings in the schools pretty frequently.
Munising is a cute little town but, you are right. My relatives all bought vacation homes up there and one of my brothers moved up there permanently, but they are thinking this might be too cold to live all year round down the road. Because he travels a lot with his job, they get out of the UP about 5 months a year. Marquette is spread out enough, but, it sure has grown from the first time I went up there. Fast forward ten years...
For sure! I remember going up there about 20 to 25 years ago and I almost didn't recognize some of the areas. It was also winter when I was up there that time, so things were even more dead.
Me too, probably 23 years... I was talking fast forward ten more years as peoplecare escaping the cities still. It will get bigger and more crowded.
You know, progress!
