Aprovechando la semana de receso que existe en Colombia para todas las instituciones educativas, me tome unas pequeñas vacaciones para despejar la mente. En estas vacaciones, visite varios sitios interesantes, pero me sentí realmente feliz en uno en especial.
Hello, I hope you are very well. In this opportunity, I want to share with you a walk I did recently. Taking advantage of the week of recess that exists in Colombia for all educational institutions, I took a little vacation to clear my mind. On this vacation, I visited several interesting places, but I felt thrilled with one in particular.
En el departamento de Boyacá, específicamente cerca de Villa de Leyva puedes conseguir un lugar curioso: La granja de avestruces. Este lugar existe desde el 2022 y se dedica a la zoocría de avestruces, es decir, favorece la reproducción, incubación y cría de esta hermosa especia y de otras que también se pueden encontrar en esta interesante granja como búfalos, faisanes, mini horse, entre otros.
In the department of Boyacá, specifically near Villa de Leyva, you can find a curious place: The ostrich farm. This place has existed since 2022 and is dedicated to ostrich breeding, that is, it favors the reproduction, incubation, and breeding of this beautiful species and others that can also be found in this interesting farm as buffaloes, pheasants, mini horses, among others.
Este lugar queda a 15 minutas de Villa de Leyva, si estás viviendo o de visita en Bogotá, y decides visitar Villa de Leyva, la granja de avestruces es uno de los muchos lugares que están cerca para visitar. Su acceso no es el mejor, debes ir en carro particular o taxi, cuando llegas te reciben unos chicos muy atentos que te explican el mecanismo y los costos.
This place is 15 minutes from Villa de Leyva, if you are living or visiting Bogota, and decide to visit Villa de Leyva, the ostrich farm is one of the many places that are close to visit. Its access is not the best, you must go by private car or cab, when you arrive you are greeted by some very attentive guys who explain the mechanism and costs.
Hay varios costos: si quieres una experiencia full, con el recorrido guiado donde te cuentan acerca de cada especie, un vaso de granizado (que no estaba muy bueno), cotufas, paseo en tren por la granja y un paquete de comida para alimentar a los animales, debes pagar 38.000 pesos o 8.24 dólares aproximadamente. Sin embargo cuenta con otros costos, por ejemplo para los niños de 1 a 10 años la entrada cuesta 20.000 pesos o 4.34 dólares aproximadamente, para los adultos 22.000 o 4.77 dólares aproximadamente, para los adultos mayores (más de 65 años) tiene un costo de 20.000 pesos o 4.34 dólares y si vas en un grupo grande de personas (más de 40), tiene un costo de 19.000 pesos por persona o 4.12 dólares.
There are several costs: if you want a full experience, with the guided tour where they tell you about each species, a glass of slush (which was not very good), tufas, a train ride through the farm, and a package of food to feed the animals, you must pay 38,000 pesos or 8.24 dollars approximately. However, there are other costs, for example for children from 1 to 10 years old the entrance fee is 20,000 pesos or 4.34 dollars approximately, for adults 22,000 pesos or 4.77 dollars, for seniors (over 65 years old) costs 20,000 pesos or 4.34 dollars and if you go in a large group of people (more than 40), it costs 19,000 pesos per person or 4.12 dollars.
Yo compre en pasaporte full, y para empezar te suben a un tren súper cómico y te dan un recorrido por toda la granja, es un recorrido corto, pero e da una visión de la granja en general, además si vas con niños esta será una experiencia muy divertida. A continuación, te informan que una guía te dará la información necesaria de cada especie. El recorrido empieza en jaula de los faisanes, donde te explican el origen de cada tipo, el porqué de sus nombres, sus colores, como se reproducen, tiempo de vida, historia y datos curiosos acerca de este exótico animal.
I bought a full passport, and to start they put you on a super fun train and give you a tour of the entire farm, it is a short tour, but it gives you an overview of the farm in general, plus if you go with children this will be a fun experience. Next, they inform you that a guide will give you the necessary information about each species, and the pheasant cage tour begins, where they explain the origin of each type, the reason for their names, their colors, how they reproduce, life span, history and curious facts about this exotic animal.
Luego fuimos a visitar a los búfalos, ellos no están en jaulas, puedes acariciarlos y darles de comer, son muy dóciles, aunque son imponentes, son animales nobles que permiten que las personas se acerquen. De igual manera los mini horses y los burritos, aunque están en establos, son animales dóciles y se permite que los alimentes. Otros animales como el los toros, pueden ser vistos en sus establos, pero no permiten a las personas acercase ni alimentarlos.
Then we went to visit the buffaloes, they are not in cages, you can pet them and feed them, they are very docile, although they are imposing, they are noble animals that allow people to approach them. Likewise, mini horses and donkeys, although in stables, are docile animals and you are allowed to feed them. Other animals, such as bulls, can be seen in their stalls, but they do not allow people to approach or feed them.
En la siguiente estación conocimos como es el proceso de reproducción de los avestruces, como se deben cuidar sus huevos, como seleccionar los que son viales y los que no y la época en la que lo hacen. En esta granja podemos encontrar avestruces y emús. La guía explica sus diferencias entre ambas especies, tanto para el macho como para la hembra.
In the next station, we learned about the ostriches' reproduction process, how to take care of their eggs, how to select the ones that are viable and the ones that are not, and the season in which they do it. On this farm, we can find ostriches and emus. The guide explains the differences between the two species, both the male and the female.
Para este momento la guía nos da ciertas recomendaciones para poder alimentar a esos interesantes animales:
- No llevar puesto cosas metálicas o brillantes
- Retirarse aretes, lentes, pulseras o cualquier objeto que los avestruces o emús puedan arrancar.
- Para darles comida se debe extender la mano y colocar la comida en la palma, sin doblar la mano ya que corres el riesgo de que la avestruz u emú te pica la manos (me paso, no es tan fuerte pero es desagradable)
For this moment, the guide gives us certain recommendations to be able to feed these interesting animals:
- Do not wear metallic or shiny things.
- Remove earrings, glasses, bracelets, or any object that the ostriches or emus can tear off.
- To feed them, you should extend your hand and place the food in the palm of your hand, without bending your hand because you run the risk of the ostrich or emu biting your hands (it happened to me, it is not so strong but it is unpleasant).
Estas avestruces y emús son dóciles, sin embargo solo se pueden alimentar a aquellas que están más acostumbradas a la presencia del ser humanos, de no ser así estos animales pueden atacar fuertemente si se sienten amenazadas. En la siguiente estación podrás conocer diferentes razas de caballo y ganado, también visitar las cabras que son muy graciosas y las llamas que escupen si se molestan contigo. Los animales están en corrales, a excepción de las gallinas y patos que caminan libremente por el lugar. Están bien cuidados, son espacios amplios e higiénicos en la medida de lo possible.
These ostriches and emus are docile, however, you can only feed those that are more accustomed to the presence of humans, otherwise, these animals can attack strongly if they feel threatened. In the next station, you can meet different breeds of horses and cattle, and also visit the very funny goats and the llamas that spit if they get upset with you. The animals are kept in corrals, except for the chickens and ducks that walk freely around the place. They are well cared for, spacious and hygienic as far as possible.
Este lugar tiene una pequeña casa donde puedes comprar snacks como cotufas, refrescos, granizados, queso de búfala, entre otros. También cuenta con un restaurante con varios cortes de carne, las entradas van entre los $12.000 y $22.000 pesos (2.62 a 4.80 dólares), sopas en $25.000 pesos (5.46 dólares), hamburguesas entre los 30.000 y 35.000 pesos (6.55 a 7.64 dólares) y platos fuertes entre los $35.000 pesos a los $59.000 pesos (7.64 a 12.88 dólares). Cuenta, de igual manera, con una tienda de souvenirs donde encontraras peluches de los animales de la granja, zarcillos, huevos vacíos y plumas de avestruces, portavasos, carteras, etc.
This place has a small house where you can buy snacks such as cotufas, soft drinks, slushies, and buffalo cheese, among others. It also has a restaurant with various cuts of meat, entrees ranging between $12,000 and 22,000 pesos (2.62 to 4.80 dollars), soups at 25,000 pesos (5.46 dollars), hamburgers between 30,000 and 35,000 pesos (6.55 to 7.64 dollars) and entrees between $35,000 to 59,000 pesos (7.64 to 12.88 dollars). It also has a souvenir store where you will find stuffed animals from the farm, tendrils, empty eggs, ostrich feathers, cup holders, wallets, etc.
Este paseo es súper interesante, si tienes hijos no dudes en llevarlos y acércalos a la naturaleza, te recomiendo protector solar y muchas hidratación, es un espacio árido y donde hace mucho sol. Como dato extra, este lugar es petfriendly, por lo que no tienes que dejar a tu amigo peludo por fuera de esta aventura. Espero puedas ir en algún momento y disfrutar de esta experiences
This tour is super interesting, if you have children do not hesitate to take them and bring them closer to nature, I recommend sunscreen and lots of hydration, it is an arid space where it is very sunny. As a bonus, this place is pet-friendly, so you don't have to leave your furry friend out of this adventure. I hope you can go sometime and enjoy this experience.
