Let's travel together #147 - Cascada Clocota (Clocota Fall)

in Pinmapple4 years ago

Getting to visit a thermal waterfall that never freezes during the winter is definitely a spectacular place that everybody should visit, especially that we are talking about a potable water formed from the gathering of all sixteen springs and the single river that is crossing the area.

We all know how majestic waterfalls are to be discovered during the winter when they are completely frozen and the whole landscape creates a real world of ice, or how grateful we are to cool down in one of the falls during the hot seasons when the temperatures are too high to make your journey a pleasant one - though, this is not the case of today's waterfall we are going to explore just because we are talking about something completely different and unique, being a fall made out from boiling springs, which also don't step back from creating a spectacular landscape when everything is covered by the white blanket of snow but where the springs never freeze and are still hot, producing lots of fog and mystery.
All these springs not only that produce a great show for every tourist is visiting the waterfall, but it also represents a unique event for Romania.

The waterfall is called Clocota and the name is not randomly chosen while a clocoti means to boil, which is the right term for the whole activity performed by the thermal springs.

Clocota Fall is located in the southeast of the village called Geoagiu-Băi which is really close to the center of the city but where way too little tourists manage to come and assist to the nature being unleashed.
The thing that makes the whole situation even sadder is that Geoagiu-Băi is not a simple village but also a balneal tourist resort where are coming daily lots of people for different thermal treatments but also to relax with some fresh air from the Transylvania's mountains and the potential of promoting the waterfall is huge.

Being located on a balneal resort, most of the people who are visiting Geoagiu-Băi are not really exploring the surroundings to the fullest, and that represents a great loss while you can always take a bath for free into the fall itself that no matter when you visit it, the water will always be warm enough to make your experience a unique and pleasant one.
One of the most special things of the waterfall is the little pools created (that remind me of the thermal springs from Pamukkale, Turkey), which allow you to easily use them as stairs until you reach the water curtain that will make you enjoy a great bath into the wilderness of nature!
But what many tourists tend to forget when they reach the balneal resort is that a vacation is not made just from waking up in the morning, eating in a different place than where you are used to, and then heading to sleep.
We are not even close to this kind of mentality, and nobody should!
Of course, we all take these journeys to take a break from daily routines and rest/relax/recharge our batteries - but we should not limit ourselves from exploring to the fullest every single place we manage to reach because this is the right treatment we can offer to the soul and mind without even noticing how important it is.

Actually, the place has way much more to offer than the waterfall I present in today's post because Geoagiu-Băi is considered a real historical-cultural treasure with lots of caves, waterfalls and different formations that appeared thousands of years ago! So what are you waiting for? 😊

Romania is blessed to have two thermal waterfalls people can get to discover - one is, of course, Clocota Fall; and the other one (presented in an older post) - Cascada Termală Toplița.
I don't know if there are too little thermal waterfalls we have compared with other countries, but for me is definitely a bliss and I can easily say that I'm proud to get to discover them both and be conquered by their special attributions.
The water that creates Clocota Fall produce a 40 m height plop where the river and all sixteen thermo-mineral springs of the area are being gathered together through this waterfall which represents a great environment for some plants and animals who live here due to the specific temperature and humidity level.
The thing that way too little people know about the waterfall is that having so many springs that are being collected together, make the waterfall be a pure and potable one which can be safely drunk by anyone who wishes to try it out, according to the specialists who made lots of tests along the time.

But as we all know, any miracle left by nature also has a legend regarding to how it appeared which most likely won't have a happy end in most of the cases. This is how Clocota Fall was discovered after back in the 18th century an officer fell in love with a miller's daughter who forced the girl to marry the man.
Since the girl was already loving a different guy, she couldn't face the pressure coming from her family and the officer and she decided to end her days by jumping from the rocks right into the waterfall.

But this is not how the waterfall was born since it was already there when the event with the young girl occurred. So a more real story is given by the way the fall looks like, being produced by many vertical folds covered by lots of moss and hanging plants coming from the roots of some fallen trees.

Even though the story of the waterfall doesn't have a happy end, the springs that are creating the waterfall and which are also used in the whole balneal resort are considered having miraculous remedies to all kind of health issues such as rheumatism, neuralgia, nutritional and metabolic diseases, gynaecological conditions, chronic cholecystitis, hepatitis and dermatological conditions to name a few, due to the many natural factors that can be found in the water - sulfur, bicarbonate, magnesium, mesothermal and thermal minerals.

The high level of ozone from the fresh air of the mountains that are surrounding Geoagiu-Băi is also considered one of the best healers to treat diseases of the nervous system, fatigue, neurosis, and anaemia.

Clocota Fall is located in Geoagiu-Băi village, Hunedoara County, and there are two options to reach it depending if you are coming from the resort or if you want to take the scenic route through the forest.
So if you want to take a short journey into the forest there is a path that is coming from the road that leads to Geoagiu and which will bring you on the left side of the waterfall, but if you come from the resort there are just 5 minutes you need to walk from Diana Hotel where you will also start seeing markers to the thermal fall, reaching the right side of it.

Just another place you'll have to show me around when we can travel a bit more freely hey!

Haha. Yeah! I'm not really a fan of thermal waterfalls which have sulfur in them, lol. But the experience is a great one of sure! 😀
