Cham's House -Koh Kood, Thailand

in Pinmapple3 years ago

Hello again folks! Today I’ll show you some more parts of the island Koh Kood and mostly the resort we stayed in and the surrounding area. The place we stayed in is called Cham’s House and as always I booked something else from what I thought I was booking. See When I went to book the hotel, the pictures showed some nice bungalows with their own pools and pretty sweet view. Apparently they were fully booked and me booking the most expensive thing on the app (thinking that must be it), wasn’t the case. The room wasn’t that bad and the view we had was actually nicer than what most of the guest houses had, with the exception of the few that were right at the beach. We didn’t stay much in the room anyways so didn’t matter much in the end. Anyways without further ado let’s get to the visuals!

Cham’s House

The hotel was about 30 minutes away from the Pier. To get to the island you have to get to Trat Pier and hop on a ferry for about 40 minutes. Once on the island, there is dedicated transport to take you to the resort you are staying at. It was a pretty long way to get here from Bangkok - we had to take a flight, then an hour and a half on a mini bus to the pier and a boat to the island itself. We left pretty early in the morning and arrived late afternoon at Cham’s house.

The resort is quite big and has its own beach, since you can’t really get to it through anywhere else. That is the case for many places around the island, some you can’t even access the beach without being a guest of the resort itself (not sure that’s legal but it’s Thailand..). Another good thing I can say about the place was some of the nicest staff I’ve seen. Thai staff around resorts is generally nice but everyone here was extra nice, always smiling and really helpful. When you go through reception, you have the pool right in front, the restaurant for breakfast on the left side and the way to the rooms on the right. Before getting to the rooms building and guest houses area you pass by a small store they have and a spa center. Further right was where we stayed.

This is the front of the holet, although it feels more like the back of it. Most hotels on the islands here have this parking area, that then gets you to their hotel from behind reception and then the main entrance is through the beach. Here you can't access the beach without going through the resort but it still feels the same way. There's only this white wall and the hotel name to the front.

The reception is quite nice. These are some of the smiling faces that welcomed us when we arrived.

And here is a hint of the beach area we had to ourselves. I'll share a lot more of it later on.

This is the building we stayed at. Not the guest house I was expecting at all but at least we were on the top floor where we could have a great view from the balcony.

The Room

IMG_1225.jpg
The room was of normal size, plenty of space for 2.

The bathroom area was a bit weird because the wall to it had wooden windows. At least it wasn’t glass, which is something that we’ve seen in another hotel in the past. Pretty weird concept looking at the toilet seat from your bedroom.. This one at least we could close and pull the curtain on. :D

That was the great view from our balcony. You can see the guest houses below and a hint of the beach behind the palm trees.

Onto the left side, there is the pool and breakfast areas.

Around the resort

Below our room was the garden with all the bungalows. I really like these types of resorts that have a really nice jungle garden that leads you to the beach through the little guest houses. At the end of the road was the restaurant for lunch and dinner and the beautiful beach. Right in front of the restaurant is a pretty rocky area and as the shore expands to the left you have a large area with plenty of sand.

Here's the first row of guest houses looking towards the beach.. and what I thought I booked.

The restaurant wasn't anything fancy. Plenty of space, tables closer and further away from the beach. The closer to the beach, the more bar-like it was.

You could rent a kayak from the hotel, a lot of people were having fun around with these. We decided not to this time around - we always get on one and I end up super tired and burned.

I must say kayaking at sunset does seem like a nice idea though.

On the side in front the restaurant was a little tent that was made for dinner. It was a special thing they offered that you had to book in advance. The menu was set and slightly overpriced because of the exclusivity. We obviously did try it and it was kind of nice, even though don’t think it is worth what they charge you.

The very first picture of the post is from this spot. I does look great for photos I won't lie.

We had an option between pizza and burgers and we went with the burgers. The thing is we wanted to try both but the Pizza we could order from the ordinary menu, where the burgers were exclusive to this thing. The dinner wasn't anything super special but the burgers were rather nice.

The Beach

The beach was very long and very empty at pretty much all times. We occasionally saw some of the guests take a walk along the shore but that was it.

This was a fun little adition hanging out from one of the palm trees. Nat sure enjoyed some time relaxing here.

These little critters were everywhere around the beach. To be honest I see them anywhere around Thai beaches - in Hua Hin they were thousands. It's always fun watching them dig their holes when the water pulles back in the afternoon.

There are significantly less rocks as you go further left from the restaurant but there are still some rocky areas. We took good use of them for some more posing.

That's all I have from the place. One more interesting fact was that in the morning and afternoon there were these sand flies that would come out. There were signs at the beach to be aware and what to do if they bite you. They are kind of like bigger mosquitos, but it hurts when they bite and it itches and hurts a lot more after. Sometimes you may need to seek medical help when bitten. I was showering in repelent and still got a few itchy bites at dinner time.

Today's post was a bit less thrilling I guess but there was a lot from and around the resort that needed showing. Next post should be a lot more interesting with having mostly beaches and underwater photography from our snorkeling trip. I hope you enjoyed the content and would come back for the next one! Have a great week and i'll see you around!
