It is understandable in certain bits of the world, I am excited about 2027 I am calling it "my year of living dangerously" LOL I am travelling through Iraq for 3 weeks in April, Then 10 days in Syria in May finishing with 10 days in Afghanistan in November. I have already had to declare to the guides what camera and lenses I am taking with me!

Sounds like an exciting time ahead. I travelled through Lebanon and the Syrian borderlands and it was fine. Just had to make sure not to photograph any checkpoints especially in Beirut of which there are many.
thats good news then, when I was in Turkmenistan a german guy I was with tried to be smart and sneak some snaps of some guards, their "minder" rushed over and made him go through his phone and delete the ones that he took. Quite right to, in my opinion. When you travel in someone else's country you obey the rules not act like some tacky tourist.
It's always polite to abide by local authorities lol. If we don't the consequences can be dire.
