🐲 How I meet Shenron & a Dragon Ball in Phuket the day of #HivePUD🏝️

in Pinmapple3 years ago (edited)

I know, it's been a while since my last post and it took nothing less than the #HivePUD and the irresistible desire to get a new badge to get me out of my job 🤣 (for more information about my Hive Power Up Day or about what it is you can read my post on my account @french-tech).

Once again I would like to show you that the old town of Phuket is worth a visit as much as its beautiful beaches and temples. To do this, I will tell you about a surprising meeting that happened to us during one of our wanderings there.

Everything starts as usual after parking the car on Dibuk Road, right next to Wat Mongkhol Nimit Phra Aram Lhuang temple. Built in 1880, It's also called Wat Klang because of its location in the center of Phuket town (klang meaning middle in Thai). Many monks live there to study Buddhism at the school located inside the temple.

We then go down the lovely small street Rommani with its houses with colored and beautiful fronts where we cross a vehicle very surprising for its decoration.

As is often the case, we came across a lottery ticket seller. There are many of them roaming the streets, shopping malls, restaurants... trying to make some money with this business. No fear to have, these tickets are absolutely valid.

Going through the small street Rommani allows us to reach the middle of Thalang road, where last time I had taken pictures of a movie shooting (my post here) and which is a place not to be missed on Sunday evening as you can see in my post about it here.

having turned left once in Thalang road we arrive at Phuket road that we cross intrigued by something yellow a little further. As we get closer we realize that it was a park.

It's the Queen Sirikit Garden and was built in 2004 to commemorate the 72nd birthday of Queen Sirikit in the year 2547 in the Thai lunar calendar (as you can see on the picture above). The Thai calendar based on Buddhist calendar is very often used although the official one is the Gregorian calendar (since 1941).

And that's when I saw it. I was so surprised to see him here in Phuket! But who was it? Who is there?

The one and only 🐲 Shenron 🐲 who has covered his skin with gold and who holds in his mouth nothing less than one of the dragon's balls 🤣

Well, you have to have the reference and I don't know if Dragon Ball is as popular in your country as it's in France but when it appeared on TV in 1988 it was a huge tsunami and the beginning of an unconditional love of the French for the Japanese manga/anime culture.

It's in fact the statue of the sea dragon Hai Leng Ong. An ancient Chinese legend tells that a golden sea dragon known by this name is the protector of Phuket. The snout of the dragon is located at the southern end of Phuket, in Laem Promthep, while the heart is located in the area of Phuket Town as shown by a representation of this legend on a stele in the park.

I hope that this story will have entertained you, I propose to leave us after having gone down a little the street and having stopped in front of the clock of the Nagara Museum of Phuket.
