The Giant Panda Adventure In The Rainforest

Ocean Park Hong Kong is not only a place to see marine life in the underwater world but also a place to experience an enchanting adventure of biodiversity. There were several terrestrial and aquatic animals, as well as avians and arthropods.

We opted to see first the most attractive animal in the rainforest, the giant panda.

The Giant Panda Adventure

There were two areas that house pandas and other mammals.

The first one was The Hong Kong's Jockey Club's Sichuan Treasures with a lot of baby panda statues outside. And life-sized pandas and monkeys, climbing and playing with each other.

The Sichuan treasures houses pandas and golden monkeys. Others were probably hiding inside their houses as we spotted three animals only. The panda, unfortunately, was taking its afternoon nap when we got there so we weren't able to see its face up close. Meanwhile, the rub-nosed golden monkey seemed to like facing the visitors as it stayed near the viewing panel the whole time. The small monkey, on the other hand, was playfully gliding from one rope to another and seemed like it wanted to show off his climbing skills to the visitors.

The next part was Amazing Asian Animals that houses several animals found in Asia. More cute panda statues were scattered within the area.

Inside the Asian animals' sanctuary was a giant panda that seemed to avoid the cameras of the visitors. It would only pass by so quickly then go back to the farther corner of the stone house. On the other side were cute baby brown pandas that were being fed by the female keeper. We also saw salamanders inside the aquarium.

At the end of the sanctuary was a panda statue with the banner that says "let's protect the endangered animals!"

Next to the panda sanctuary was a traditional Chinese-style building that houses several fish such as cute golden fish, bubble eye fish, feeders, and koi fish. It was also my first time to see a sleeping fish. (Refer to the center-left part of the photo below).

See how the other fish look at the sleepy one. Seemed like it's saying "hey goldy, wake up. A lady wants to take a photo of you."

Then the sleepy one responded. "Just let her take, I'm freaking tired." Haha

After seeing goldfish and manta rays resting in their respective tanks, I suddenly asked myself, "do fish gets tired from swimming?" 😅

At first, we thought it was fake, but we checked other aquariums and there was no fish toys. My friend and I were asking each other if it was fake or real. But why would they put a toy in only one aquarium? 😅

The Rainforest

On the Summit of the Ocean Park was another sanctuary that houses several rainforest animals.

Passing through what they called canopy highway that links trees together, we saw red-handed tamarins playfully climbing on the branches, and moving from one tree to another. While a lonely capybara lying on the ground that seemed to be waiting for company. There were red cherry head red foot turtles, and several freshwater fish on different aquariums, such as electric eel fish, angelfish, tambaqui, arapaima, and more. And inside the glass-covered tree was a huge green tree python curling on a branch that doesn't seem to move.

As we continued our rainforest exploration inside the rainforest house, we passed through a cave with walls that were covered with protruding tree roots. Several arthropods were inside different glass tanks, such as tarantulas, beetles, centipedes, and a giant green anaconda was soaking in the water inside a huge water tank.

The centipede in the photo was just a fake one sticking on the wall. We didn't take photos of the real ones.

*Do you know that green anacondas give birth to live young? I just learned about it from this poster inside the cave.

Don't freak out once you exit from the cave, as several bats hanging on the walls and ceilings will surprise you at the exit way.

From the water world to the rainforest. Where will I go next?

Stay tuned! 😁
