Old Police Headquarters at Seaport District, San Diego, California, USA (7 pics)

in Pinmapple3 years ago

Since 2013, the whole area around the complex has been revamped to become "The Headquarters", but since 1939 this place is known as the San Diego Police Headquarters.

A mix of architectural styles dating from the 1930s and 1940s which gives an unusual ambience to a police station is the reason why the site was chosen to create a prime shopping and dining area.

Part of the police station has been preserved and it is interesting to venture there to see historical photos of former prisoners and to discover the female uniforms of the time.

We will learn during the visit that the first female sergeant promoted there was in 1976!

There are also a few fairly well-preserved accessories on display, but nothing that stands out.

We will learn that the police station was in operation until 1987, that is to say 48 years and that it was so big that there was once a bowling alley.

In the 1950s it unfortunately got too small and had to be enlarged before being abandoned.

One of the most interesting part of the tour is visiting an 8 cell prison block.

We can even leave with our own prisoner photo taken on the lineup wall.

An interesting and unexpected visit near the San Diego port.

I love San Diego and need to travel there again

It is a nice city. Did you see the old police headquarters?

I lived there are month or so - but mainly at the beach in mission or la jolla

The interior of the building looks like a typical police station but looking at it from the outside gives me a different vibe. Probably the most beautiful police station in my opinion.
