Golden Sands and Blue Waters!

Saline Bay is literally at the top right corner of Trinidad and is homeo of one of the largest reefs on the island known as the Salybia Reef. The name comes from the indigenous word for "The Crossing" due to their canoe trades with tribes from the nearby sister isle of Tobago. It is a remote fishing area up to this day with amazing blue waters and lush untouched forests. By the time we took the two and a half hour drive to the beach, it was sunset and the photos were amazing, not to mention that you will get to see pure Trinidadian evening beach vibes!

The golden rays of the sun made the beach even more beautiful in my opinion making the sands more golden and the hues of the clean, clear waters and reefs below it even more alluring! There was a huge amount of people there that evening even though it was a week day and everyone was dancing, drinking and partying in true Trinidadian style on the beach.

As I was driving in, I saw multitudes of vendors still open who would have most likely been open all day during the hot sun as well! The one above sold floatation toys and their main thing was snow cones with a large variation of awesome and local flavors of syrups! Nothing beats a snow cone on a hot summer's beach day with a bit of condensed milk on top!

This other lady had an array of delicious local delicacies such as punches, cakes, fudge, tamarind balls, spicy mango chow and much more! I had to resist stopping and getting carried away!

This other stall called "Ah Taste of Toco" with a cool bamboo bar had the real stuff that included boil and roast corn, roast fish, shark and fried (a true Trini beach food) as well as chicken and chips and other drinks such as coconut waters! You can see them roasting on their grill on the second photo, the smell was so amazing and tantalizing!

I drove in further towards the beach looking for a parking space as the place was so packed. I was lucky to be pulling up when someone who was parked in prime spot just on the shoreline was pulling out and so I snagged it before anyone else could! It would be an amazing base of operations for when I was ready to send up the drone!

The lifeguards were out in their numbers as drinking and the beach at this hour could be extremely dangerous. You can see one in yellow in the photo above along with the yellow wooden lifeguard facility building.

This is the view I had just by stepping out of the car! I was glad they let us park right on the beach on patches of grass that prevented you from getting stuck in the sand. The waters were extremely calm and the weather was amazing for bathing! There is nothing like taking a dip in waters warmed up during a sunny day at the evening time when the sun is setting!

I could not get enough of how the setting sun's light made everything look so much more magical and heavenly! This was literally the second time I have ever been to a beach at sunset and I was just loving it!

The people seemed to be loving it as well as they bathed and played in the waters and sands enjoying the amazing weather. I feel like its much more enjoyable when there is no blinding scorching sun in your face and the water is just at the right temperature! Also you don't get a tan! For us browner people this is a plus!

This fisherman was passing through with his boat and in Trinidadian fashion was talking and laughing with the beach goers as he passed by much as if he was walking through a village and greeting everyone! He stopped every so often sharing a joke or two before moving on!

The red building you see in the photos above was the bar on the furthest western end of the beach for those who were not willing to walk back I guess! There was a great buzz going on here with so many people hanging out and "shooting the breeze" as one would say in Trinidad to mean having fun aimlessly!

I decided to fly higher and get a more wide angled view of the whole bay. I was getting so carried away observing the people and their fun that I forgot that I was here to document the beach in its entirety! As the drone rose higher, I could see the breathtaking Salybia Reef through the beautifully turquoise colored waters.

You can use the boat as a reference for location and scale to ground you. Look at that amazing water and the reef down below! These views were not at all visible from the beach where everyone was and I believe that most did not even know the water looked this good from above and neither were they cognizant of the fact that there was a thriving reef below them!

I decided to explore lower down the coastline more westwards and found breathtaking verdant cliff sides lined with coconut trees with a few solitary and remote beach houses here and there. These views are not seen by local that often excpet for the fishermen and I could not wait to share them on the social media!

Saline Beach was so much fun to visit and observe the good vibes that was going on with all the food, drinks, people and breathtaking scenery. I could not believe we had such a large reef here, something that I was not aware of before this visit! The sunset really complemented the lush landscape and I think I'll be visiting beaches at sunset much more often now after this experience! Thanks a lot for coming along, cheers!
