Hello friends! I want to introduce you to a square that I liked from the beginning. When I arrived in Chile, one of my mandatory destinations was the Plaza de Armas. When I was told where it was, I went there in those first days since I was living quite close.

Hola amigos! Quiero presentarles una plaza que desde un principio me gustó. Cuando llegué a Chile, uno de mis destinos obligados era la Plaza de Armas. Cuando me dijeron dónde quedaba, fui para allá en esos primeros días ya que estaba viviendo bastante cerca.

The Plaza de Armas, located in the central area of Santiago, near the Bellas Artes metro station, is quite famous for the amount of pigeons that you can see there. The first time I went and saw it, the first thing I thought was: this square looks very much like Europe, since in the past I visited Madrid and Santiago looked very much like this style, totally European.

La Plaza de Armas, queda en todo el casco central de Santiago, cerca del metro de Bellas Artes y es bastante famosa por la cantidad de palomas que ahí puedes ver. La primera vez que yo fui y la conocí, lo primero que pensé fue: esta plaza se parece mucho a Europa, ya que en un pasado pude visitar Madrid y Santiago me parecía muy de este estilo, totalmente Europeo.

This Plaza was delimited by the Alarife Pedro de Gamboa, who was an important urban planner of the time. According to history, this square was really for military training and as a strategic center. As the years went by, it became a more commercial plaza and a place for visitors and tourists, since little by little important buildings were built, such as churches, post offices and government buildings, which is why it became a tourist attraction.

Esta Plaza, fue delimitada por el Alarife Pedro de Gamboa, quien fue un urbanista importante de la época. Según la historia, esta plaza era realmente para entrenamiento militar y como centro estratégico. Con el pasar de los años, se fue convirtiendo en una plaza más comercial y de visitantes y turistas, ya que poco a poco se fueron construyendo edificaciones importantes como iglesias, correos y edificios gubernamentales, por lo que pasó a ser turística.

In this square there are buildings such as: Correos de Chile, which is quite important, since through this building important procedures are handled by couriers through envelopes that are sent to the government.
We can also see the national historical museum, which in a next opportunity I will show you inside and there is a church.

En esta plaza están edificios como: Correos de Chile, que es bastante importante, ya que por este edificio se manejan trámites importantes por mensajerías a través de sobres que se envían al gobierno.
También podemos ver el museo histórico nacional, que en una próxima oportunidad se los mostraré por dentro y hay una iglesia.

It is normal, or at least as far as Chile is concerned and I could also say that Venezuela, the main and central squares of the cities have important and usually colonial structures around them. Perhaps it was a milestone that was exercised before and replicated in several countries.

Es normal, o por lo menos en lo que respecta a Chile y también podría decir que Venezuela, las plazas principales y centrales de las ciudades, poseen a su alrededor estructuras importantes y normalmente coloniales. Quizás fue un hito que se vino ejerciendo desde antes y se replicó en varios países.

The square is quite large, with several sculptures and benches where many people sit to enjoy the weather or just feed the pigeons. There are also local cafes where you can sit down to have a coffee and enjoy a nice afternoon with friends...

La plaza es bastante grande, con varias esculturas y bancas donde muchas personas se sientan a disfrutar el clima o simplemente darle comida a las palomas. También hay locales como cafés donde puedes sentarte a tomar un café y disfrutar de una buena tarde con amigos…

Un Bellas Artes también por allá, no deja de sorprenderme cua ta replica hay en muchas ciudades de Latinoamérica que muestras los rastros de la influencia europea, incluyendo el tema de ls estructuras coloniales que mencionas. Al principio me parecía decepcionante, parece como si nada fuera realmente nuestro, pero luego entendí que la apropiación puede ser más fuerte que lo impuesto xD.
Bueno, he visto este sistema de organización en varios países, con pocas diferencias, pero siempre siguiendo los mismos patrones de diseño. No sé si para otros continentes pare lo mismo, pero recuerdo que una vez que fui a europa, también lo aplicaban. Es interesante.
