Pleased to greet you again travelers of this wonderful community of @pinmapple, I am pleased to continue sharing with you what was our tour in this wonderful tourist route through the historic center of the city of Cumaná, Edo Sucre, Venezuela; as part of a school activity of my son's school, where a field trip was proposed for the children to know the different historical places of the city, with the valuable support of Imatur, an institution that promotes local tourism, and its team of tour guides who guided the children along the route with all the necessary information of each of these places.
Gusto en saludarlos nuevamente viajeros de esta maravillosa comunidad de @pinmapple, me complace poder seguir compartiendo con ustedes lo que fue nuestro recorrido en esta maravillosa ruta turística por el casco histórico de la ciudad de Cumaná, Edo Sucre, Venezuela; como parte de una actividad escolar de la escuela de mi hijo, donde se propuso una salida de campo para que los niños conocieran los diferentes lugares históricos de la ciudad, contando con el valioso apoyo de Imatur, Institución que promueve el turismo local, y su equipo de guías turísticos que orientaron a los niños a lo largo del recorrido con toda la información necesaria de cada uno de estos lugares.
In this fourth stop of the route we arrived at the Santa Inés Church, which is located in the historic center, in the community of San Francisco, specifically on Sucre Street; next to the ruins of the "Santa María de la Cabeza" Castle, which I spoke about in a previous publication, this church was declared this same year in January by Pope Francis as a Minor Basilica, because it is the oldest Catholic temple in the city, built between 1862 and 1866, and was named in honour of our patron virgin "Santa Inés".
En esta cuarta parada de la ruta llegamos a la Iglesia Santa Inés, la cual queda ubicada en el casco histórico, en la comunidad de San Francisco, específicamente en la calle Sucre; al lado de las ruinas del Castillo Santa María de la Cabeza, el cual les hable en una publicación previa, esta iglesia fue declarada este mismo año en el mes de enero por el Papa Francisco como Basílica Menor , debido a que es el templo católico más antiguo de la ciudad, construida entre 1862 y 1866, y fue nombrada en honor a nuestra virgen patrona “Santa Inés”.
It was built on the remains of the Parish Church, which also functioned as Ermita del Carmen. This temple represents a great historical, cultural, architectural and religious value for the city, so it was declared a National Historic Heritage in 1960, its structure is basilica silver with three naves which are divided by arches resting on Doric columns, on its facade you can see two bell towers, with its iconic clock at the top of one of the towers we can hear the chimes at 12 noon and 6 pm.
La misma fue construida sobre los restos de la Iglesia Parroquial, que también funcionó como Ermita del Carmen. Este templo representa un gran valor histórico, cultural, arquitectónico y religioso para la ciudad, por lo que fue declarado como Patrimonio Histórico Nacional en 1960, su estructura es de plata basilical de tres naves las cuales están divididas por arcos que reposan sobre columnas dóricas, en su fachada se puede apreciar dos torres campanarios, con su icónico reloj a lo alto de una de las torres podemos escuchar las campanadas a las 12 del mediodía y 6 de la tarde.
From the moment you enter the church you feel a solemn atmosphere of full peace, your gaze is lost among so many beautiful architectural details on its walls and ceiling, with a Neo Renaissance style has beautiful religious figures and paintings dating from the date of the XVI century colony, some of which have undergone restoration work. We could also see beautiful stained glass windows of different Saints, magnificent altars where the images of Jesus of Nazareth on his cross, the Nazarene, the Virgin Mary are venerated, as well as an altar arranged for Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez, who was beatified by the Church in the year 2021, for all the miracles granted to the sick.
Desde que entras a la iglesia se siente un ambiente solemne de paz plena, tu mirada se pierde entre tantos hermosos detalles arquitectónicos en sus paredes y techo, con un estilo Neo Renacentista cuenta con hermosas figuras y cuadros religiosos que datan de la fecha de la colonia del siglo XVI, las cuales algunas de estas han sido objeto de restauraciones, pudimos ver también hermosas ventanas de vitrales de diferentes Santos, magníficos altares donde se venera las imágenes de Jesús de Nazareth en su cruz, al Nazareno, a la Virgen María, así como también pude apreciar un altar dispuesto para el Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, quien fue Beatificado por la Iglesia en el año 2021, por todos los milagros concedidos a los enfermos.
Every year, specifically on January 21, a special celebration is held in the city where the Patron Virgin of Santa Inés is venerated, which begins with a procession that goes through the center of the city and ends here in this church with a mass in her honor; during Holy Week, tribute is also paid to the Nazarene.
Todos los años específicamente el 21 de enero se lleva a cabo una celebración especial en la ciudad donde se venera a la Virgen Patrona de Santa Inés, la cual inicia con una procesión que recorre el centro de la ciudad y termina aquí en esta iglesia con una misa en su honor; en Semana Santa también se le rinde tributo al Nazareno.
This church has been the scene of many masses for school promotions and weddings, finally the Imatur guides invited the children to group to take pictures with the Nazarene and gave them a talk about the history of this magnificent temple, everyone was amazed to see how beautiful and well preserved the church is, its large doors serve as ventilation and give clarity to this place where many parishioners enact their faith, fans have been placed on top of each of the pillars that also help to keep the place cool.
Esta iglesia ha sido escenario de muchas misas para promociones escolares y bodas, finalmente los guías de Imatur invitaron a los niños agruparse para tomarse las fotos junto al Nazareno y les dieron una charla sobre la historia de esta Magnífico Templo, todos estaban asombrados al ver lo hermoso y bien conservado que se encuentra la iglesia, sus grandes puertas sirven de ventilación y dan claridad a este recinto donde muchos feligreses promulgan su fe, se han colocado ventiladores en lo alto de cada uno de los pilares que ayudan también a mantener fresco el lugar.
I loved that my son visited this temple with his classmates and learned about its history, it is very important that young people have this kind of experience and above all identify with their roots, after this visit took some time for a snack and then we headed to the next stop another iconic place of the city as is the Plaza Bolivar, which I will be sharing later, until another opportunity.
Me encanto que mi hijo visitara este templo junto con sus compañeros de clase y conocieran sobre su historia, es muy importante que la juventud tenga este tipo de experiencia y sobre todo se identifique con sus raíces, luego de esta visita se tomó un tiempo para un refrigerio y luego nos dirigimos a la siguiente parada, otro lugar icónico de la ciudad como es la Plaza Bolívar, que les estaré compartiendo más adelante, hasta una nueva oportunidad.
