Mutiara Beach The Gate To Underwater Wonders

When life gives you lemon, make lemonade and sell it.

In my previous two stories, I happened to visit the beach during rain storms and scattered rain. It was something we did not expect because rainy days aren’t really upon us until November to February. But these days the weather is so unpredictable that it’s all about luck when it comes to the beach.

Mutiara beach is located in trenggalek east java and is less popular than prigi. In this place, people rarely visit because the road going there is quite slippery and muddy especially during the rain. Not to mention, the sand here is actually black rather than white sand like its neighboring beaches along the bay. For some reason, people would rather go to white sandy beaches than those with black sands. However Mutiara beach itself offers more water sport activities than prigi and is actually closer for freediving and snorkeling. Not to mention, the other side of this beach actually portrays that picture perfectly of “tropical beach”.

We started the journey from home very early and reached tulungagung, a city next to it for a food adventure. This place is known for its chicken soup that’s served with crisp cow skin and also peanuts. There are two famous vendors in this place but we went to a place called “ Sop ayam pak djono” which has existed for more than 50 years. Ever since I was a kid, my parents have brought me here, so this legendary food stall has a special place in our life. As you can see below, it's a pretty humble meal and a bowl of this warm soup costs around $2 since it was drizzling, a warm soup fits the atmosphere. In the past, the soup was served in small bowls that we can eat up to 2-3 bowls but nowadays, they serve it in bigger bowls and even one is quite filling.

After eating at that soup place, we continued the journey to Mutiara Beach. It was not easy to reach this place because its location that’s actually in the corner of Trenggalek bay. The road was meandering, somewhat slippery and especially the rain was pouring heavily in the middle of our journey. But after another hour and half from the soup place, we reached the beach.

DSC08674.JPG

The view was unmatched although it rained quite heavily. The place has two sides, the first one showed a beautiful mountain range which was misty at the time and another side was a tropical beach through and through. I also walked through the rocky pathway just to get closer to the beach. The palm trees and coconut are more around here than in Mutiara beach.

We stopped at a warung and had warm tea while eating fruits we were carrying from home. At first, we were planning for a picnic at this site and half day snorkeling. Alas, the weather was as you see dark, gloomy and it rained now and then.

DSC08714.JPG

So, I just pulled up my laptop and did hive stuff. It’s nice to have a set of supportive parents who even told me, “ do your work and just swim later” because they saw I was disappointed due to the weather. It took a while for me to actually be fine and then, when the rain stopped for a bit, I went to take pictures. It’s strange how these pictures below look somewhat from a snowy mountain with a cabin instead of the beach and the surrounding bay.

I was honestly drenched in water at that moment and was ready to just walk around everywhere. But I got back because I didn’t bring an umbrella. At that point, I was also starving, so I got cup noodles. We also talked with the owner who told us that the rain was only starting that day and they were also wondering why it rained from early morning until midday. They also informed us about many things, especially around the area. The toilet in that warung was also super clean and it was nice to know that there is a clean place to be because often, public toilets are quite horrible in Indonesia.

We were also curious about another side of the beach, so we walked to the tropical side of the beach. Yet upon arriving at the spot, it was thundering and the wind blew really hard. However, like I said earlier, it was all worth it. As you can see some of the results below including the swing by the sea which looked even more amazing had it not rained. After taking pictures on the tropical side, I got back to the warung and once again, typing on my laptop. This place is actually pretty nice and I could see boats cruising through the bay even when it rained. Well, as you know, I ended up taking the boat even without life jackets haha. It was fun though and I am looking forward to going back there soon. Some of these pictures turned out amazing and I wasn’t expecting that. Although now, it made me want to get a GoPro hero or even water protection for my camera, especially if I want to shoot during rainy days.

Mutiara beach itself is closer to the snorkeling spot than Prigi and the floating house is closer. It’s also a bit massive as even when I left the place, I still took some pictures and there were lots of boats parked and waiting for the rain to stop so they could reach the floating houses and also the spots where they grow lobsters and asian sea bass.

To me, it seems so peaceful even during heavy rain to be in the floating house since actually it’s quite more stable in the middle than around the shore. Not to mention, a great place to be when anyone just wants to stay away from phones, society and people. From what we gather, the floating houses are also for rent and also often rented by people who like fishing. Do you want to try staying in a floating house like this?

It's my first time hearing the crispy cow skin. And a hot chicken soup in the mid of gloomy weather is definitely the best.

Those pictures of the swing are my favorite here. The weather added beauty to the photo. And I love to stay in that floating house. Here in our place, we call it "Gakit".

Crispy cow skin is pretty popular snacks here. Some of them are crunchy but some less crunchy + they are savory. Some traditional indonesian dishes are also made with spiced cow skin. Do you have cow skin dishes in your place too?

I was thinking of sitting in the swing and take picture from the back but given the weather, that's gonna be like a scene from a horror movie 😂 that's what I associate the swing and that weather at the time. I am glad you liked that one because I wasn't expecting people going to like the swing more than the others hehe.

Hi, I haven't been around lately so my response is a bit late.

But anyway, so far, I haven't eaten cow skin dishes or known a place selling that dishes. I only know roasted pig skin tho.

Well, if you were wearing a white dress, it would surely give off an eerie vibe. Or maybe a classic/vintage vibe instead. 😁

You've been getting a lot of rain these days haha. I guess it's something that happens during the change of season, I don't know. The whole trip looks great. Isn't working in the fresh air better than working at home? That's how I feel.

It's rainy season where I live and I don't really like it. I just like cold but not muddy rain because there's nothing I can do from inside my home. I also haven't got back to my own place which I should very soon. It's still very hot during the day but cold at night and also drizzling. And yeah, working from outside is better than home especially when I have bad mood too. But these days, because of my health, I am staying indoor more than outdoors.

I like cold weather without rain too, especially when you consider that where I am now it's scorching hot. What's wrong with your health? I hope you get better soon.

Beautiful place! Was that a swing by the beach? It’s picture perfect!
The mountains with the clouds look so cold and amazing! If you don’t have a waterproof camera, I guess you should really get something for rainy days like these. Your parents are amazing and so supportive! It’s nice to be able to travel with them.

Yes, it was a swing by the beach, would've been perfect during a sunny day because the view was amazing as it's overlooking some hills along the bay. Some people here mentioned they like the swing although to me it's like a scene from a horror movie😅

😂 I am quite a procrastinator that I keep forgetting to buy them when I have the chance to and yeah, some of my parents are so supportive of what I do but the other set of parents, not so much😅, a long story right there. I travel often with them these days because in the past, I just like going alone and been avoiding them for years so, I am trying to redeem myself in a way 😊

What kind of imagination are you having? 😂 It’s not a horror film, it’s more like romance. But maybe it could be horror in a way..

I could sense a very long story there. Well, still glad you can travel with them. Some people don’t want to travel with parents because of so many things, like freedom not granted or something of sort.

I was imagining a long haired woman looking through the ocean and as you tap her shoulder, she has a deformed face and grinning at you 😂. Traveling with parents is one thing and living with them is another which I definitely prefer travel than living for longterm with them hehe

Hahaha! What a horror story!

Agree with that. Living for long term with parents sometimes is a hassle for us. 😅

Great shots here. awesome.

Hmm, I'd like to go to this place because of its "snowy montain" atmoshpere.

haha yeah, nice atmosphere for sure.

With that cloudy weather my taste buds surely will look for foods too, the comfort of coldness, hehe. Well if I am in that position surely my stubborn side will comes back to life. I also enjoyed running and swimming under the rain, I love the cold.

It was amazing running and swimming during rain and the beach was empty just like the other one so it was totally amazing. Although view wise, this one offers more than the other. Is it already rainy season in PH too?

What a beauty, the place is just heavenly. I missed the beach but no time yet to visit one of thr nearest beach here. Thanks for sharing this I surely enjoyed the view you captured them perfectly that I feel like getting inside to the screen of my phone and swim there. (~‾▿‾)~

yay! I am happy you like the pictures. I hope you get the chance too before cold season on the way. I mean, the weather progressively gets colder and I don't like it. Although parts of me like fall because it's my favorite season and seeing the leaves just changing its color and falling from it is amazing.

It's really my wish but I don't have someone who will come with me there huehue but yeah, I I'll try to visit there, Ill just ask mother to come with me. How I wish we also have that fall season, we only have two by the way rainy and dry season.

I can feel you because I don't like to go to the beach on a rainy day. I have to tell myself over and over again that raining is normal and good for the plants (I love plants :) so there is nothing to be sad about but still something is not right.

Btw, the soup with peanuts is very strange to me. I love peanuts but never eat with soup, might try to add it to my chicken noodle soup too.

😂 haha yeah it's because we are accustomed to hear/see/experience the beach during a sunny day. But it was fun exploring the beach even during rainy days and I would say, I was satisfied😊

It is strange even here that's why that kind of soup is only available in the particular area because it's not something so common for people to have chicken soup added with peanuts. For me, it adds more crunchiness into the soup.

I am having chicken noodle soup tonight and will try to add peanuts. Can't wait to try it. Have a lovely weekend.

hahaha please let me know and get back to me when you tried it 😃
