Saint Agnes from Different Angles. We continue to be active, enjoying tours of our Historic Center of Cumana, Sucre State, Venezuela, and on this occasion, we are going to experience the architectural essence of a structure that has been in this area for many years and represents a profound history of what our faith means. We are talking about the Minor Basilica of Saint Agnes. However, many have spoken about its interior, and today we will experience everything that its exterior represents. We can reach this magnificent religious temple from different areas, which is why we enjoy it from various angles. But in addition to experiencing its beauty, we are also moved by the beauty of the colonial surroundings.
In short, talking about the Minor Basilica is not just talking about a religious temple; it is having before our eyes the imposing structure and the meaning it has for all of us. This is because you don't need to be an architect or an engineer to see, feel, and hold such a beautiful building in your heart. Being near this temple is to feel tremendous protection, because it seems to be a powerful guardian for our beloved Cumana. And although it has been remodeled, care has always been taken to maintain its colonial essence, because despite this, we have witnessed its resistance over the years and the ravages of nature.

For example, from Bolívar Street and La Ermita Street, we can see its imposing towers in the distance, which bring life to the area. In addition, as we walk through the neighborhood, we can enjoy the excitement of passing by the different houses that still maintain their colonial essence and transport us to times gone by; it's all full of magic.
From these two streets, we arrive at one side of the Minor Basilica, entering via La Luneta Street, which has recently been converted into a kind of boulevard. These spaces are free of vehicular traffic, and it is precisely in this area that the festivities in honor of the Virgin of Saint Agnes, patron saint of Cumana, take place every January 21. Similarly, every November 27, the founding of Cumana is celebrated, and here we experience the Nights of Yesteryear; magic, color, and history are what we experience during these seasons.
Another place from which you can see this wonderful religious structure is when visiting the fabulous Castillo de San Antonio de la Eminencia, another imposing structure that we will talk about another time. From this fort, we can enjoy views of this magical building in the distance, accompanied by incredible scenery and an extremely beautiful sky. Our land is truly full of magic, culture, and many people with great humanity.
At the foot of the Minor Basilica of Santa Inés, there is a colonial building that serves as the headquarters of the Municipal Institute of Tourism, where you can learn about the history of this area. Right next to this historic house is Callejón Santa Inés, an alleyway we mentioned in a previous post. From there, we can also reach the temple and enjoy all its beauty on the left side, including the clock in the tower.
When we stand in front of the religious temple, we notice its entrance, with its colonial door and the special touch of many windows. It is easy to imagine that standing in front of it and inside it, the peace one feels is refreshing and exciting. The details of the clocks in one of the towers and the bell tower in the other tower are a kind of guide that allows people to locate the temple with ease. The truth is that its sides and facade are a tribute to harmony and balance; nothing has been improvised. On the contrary, everything has been placed there by the hand of God. I am referring to how perfect this structure is.
You really must live in the moment when the bells ring; this is not something that torments us, but rather a sound that fills us with peace and invites us to spend moments of relief inside. At this moment, its doors were still closed, but soon I will offer you a different view of the beauty inside. Let's not forget to enjoy the part that extends from the boulevard and leads us to other historical sites in the area; the Historic Center is a beautiful way to experience colonial excitement.
Another very important aspect that we are going to present is that right next to the Minor Basilica of Santa Inés is the castle or fort of Saint Mary of the Head. If I told you earlier that the Basilica was a guardian of the city, imagine this castle as the Basilica's right hand. It is a small monument, but from the outside it looks beautiful and strong. To enter this structure, you must do so during the respective tours; it is not as open as the Castle of Saint Anthony of the Eminence.
On the occasions I have been to this castle, I have felt an incredible sense of peace. The view is great, and from there you can enjoy much of the city and the beautiful sea of the Gulf of Cariaco. But anyway, this castle will be the subject of a future experience. In conclusion, contemplating the Minor Basilica in all its glory is to be at peace with oneself; it is to be in a temple that inspires respect, harmony, emotion, and evokes the faith that we all carry within us. Santa Inés desde Diferentes Ángulos. Seguimos activos, disfrutando de los recorridos por nuestro Centro Histórico de Cumaná estado Sucre Venezuela y en esta oportunidad; vamos a vivir la esencia arquitectónica de una estructura que tiene muchos años en este sector y que representa una historia profunda de lo que significa nuestra fe. Hablamos de la Basílica Menor de Santa Inés; sin embargo, muchos han hablado de ella desde su interior y hoy, lo que vamos vivir será todo lo que representa su visión exterior. A este grandioso templo religioso, podemos llegar desde diferentes zonas; razón por la cual la disfrutamos desde varios ángulos, pero además de vivir de su belleza, también nos emocionamos con lo hermoso de lo colonial que existe a su alrededor.
En definitiva; hablar de la Basílica Menor, no es solo hablar de un templo religioso; sino es tener frente a nuestros ojos lo imponente de su estructura y el significado que tiene para todos nosotros. Es así; porque no se necesita ser arquitecto ni ingeniero para ver, sentir y tener en nuestro corazón tan hermosa edificación. Estar cerca de este templo; es sentir una protección tremenda, porque toda ella parece ser un poderoso guardian para nuestra amada Cumaná. Y aunque ha sido remodelada; siempre se ha tenido el cuidado de mantener su esencia colonial, porque a pesar de ello; hemos sido testigo de la resistencia que ha tenido por el pasar de los años y los embates de la naturaleza.

Por ejemplo; desde la calle Bolívar y la calle la Ermita, a lo lejos podemos observar sus imponentes torres que le dan vida al sector. Aunado a ello; durante ese transitar, podemos disfrutar de la emoción que sentimos al pasar por las diferentes casas que aun mantienen su esencia colonial y nos hacen estar en épocas pasadas; todo esto está lleno de magia.
Desde éstas dos calles; llegamos a un lateral de la Basílica Menor, justamente ingresando por la calle La Luneta, que recientemente la han convertido en una especie de boulevard. Esos espacios están libres de tránsito vehicular y por esta zona; precisamente se desarrollan todos los 21 de enero de cada año, las festividades en Honor a la Virgen de Santa Ines patrona de Cumaná; de igual manera, todos los 27 de noviembre de cada año, se celebra la fundación de Cumaná y aquí se viven las Noches de Antaño; magia, color y época es lo que experimentamos en estas temporadas.
Otro de los sectores desde donde se observa la maravillosa estructura religiosa; es cuando estamos de visita en el fabuloso Castillo de San Antonio de la Eminencia, otra imponente estructura de la cual hablaremos en otra oportunidad. Desde este fuerte podemos disfrutar a los lejos de esta mágica edificación, acompañada de un paisaje increíble y un cielo sumamente hermoso; de verdad que nuestra tierra está llena de magia, cultura y mucha gente con total humanidad.
A los pies de la Basílica Menor de Santa Inés, tenemos una edificación colonial, que funciona como sede del Instituto Municipal de Turismo y ellos se encargan de informarnos sobre toda la historia presente en esta zona. Justamente; al lado de esa casa histórica está el Callejón Santa Ines, callejón del que hablamos en una publicación anterior y desde allí también podemos llegar al templo, así como disfrutar de toda su belleza en lo que respecta a su lado izquierdo; hasta el reloj en la torre puedes ver.
Cuando estamos frente al templo religioso; nos damos cuenta de su entrada, detallando su puerta colonial y el toque especial de muchas ventanas; es de imaginarse, que al estar frente a ella y dentro de ella, la paz que se siente es refrescante y emocionante. Los detalles de los relojes en una de las torres y el campanario en la otra torre; son una especie de guía que permite a las personas ubicar el templo con total facilidad. Lo cierto; es que sus laterales y su fachada, son un canto a la armonía y al equilibrio; nada ha sido improvisado, al contrario, todo ha sido como puesto por la mano de Dios, me refiero a lo perfecta que es esta estructura.
Realmente debes vivir el momento cuando suenan las campanas; esto no representa algo que atormente, sino es un sonido que nos llena de paz y nos invita a pasar momentos de alivio en su interior; para este instante sus puertas aun estaban cerradas, pero pronto les ofreceré una visión diferente de la belleza de su interior. Nos nos olvidemos de disfrutar de la parte que se extiende del boulevard y que nos conduce hacia otros sitios históricos del sector; el Centro Histórico es una forma hermosa de vivir la emoción colonial.
Otro aspecto muy importante que vamos presentar; es que justamente al lado de la Basílica Menor de Santa Inés, está ubicado el Castillo o el fuerte de Santa María de la Cabeza. Si antes les dije que la Basílica era un vigilante de la ciudad; imagínense a este castillo como la mano derecha de la Basílica. Es un monumento pequeño; pero que desde afuera se ve como algo hermoso y fuerte. Para entrar a esta estructura, se debe ingresar en los momentos que hagan los respectivos recorridos; no es tan abierto como el Castillo de San Antonio de la Eminencia.
En las oportunidades que he estado en este castillo; realmente se siente una paz increíble, la vista es genial y desde allí se puede disfrutar de gran parte de la ciudad y del hermoso mar presente en el Golfo de Cariaco. Pero bueno; este castillo será motivo para una próxima vivencia. En conclusión; contemplar la Basílica Menor en toda su extensión, es estar en paz con uno mismo; es estar en un templo que inspira respeto, armonía, emoción y evoca la fe que todos llevamos por dentro; en definitiva, el templo es un regalo que llevarnos siempre en nuestros corazones y si algún día vienes a Cumaná, debes entrar y vivir a Santa Inés; saludos y nos vemos pronto.
