I traveled to Shanghai in Early 2019,and was surprised how much I liked it.Despite of being so massive,I actually found it fairly easy to get around. There are really interesting mix of architecture.
What I also found interesting was the dichotomy between the "capitalist" and "authoritarian' feeling while walking around. Like me and my partner went to a few gay bars and it felt like we could have been in San Francisco or London.But then you walk outside and see police and CCTV at every intersection.
