ALQUÉZAR, a medieval village in Spain (ENG - ESP)

in Pinmapplelast year

Alquezar, Province of Huesca, Spain

Alquézar is a beautiful medieval village, you have already noticed that I love this kind of places, which is known as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain and of course being close I was going to visit it. And it is not for less such a mention! Its excellent location within the mountains of the Pyrenees of Aragon makes this place a strategic place to know in its proximity to the city of Huesca and Zaragoza.

IMG_20210523_091431747_HDR.jpg

To get to Alquézar is a bit complicated to go by public transport and quite uncertain the frequencies of some buses that can pass a little close, so this time I ventured with a group of friends in a private vehicle. However, the first view I have of the city leaves me very impressed and with my mouth open, I immediately have the feeling of being in the middle of the series of Games of Thrones. It is very conceivable to think that having this place so far away from any accumulation of population, cars and pollution what they do is to protect the charm that it hides in its streets.

IMG_20210523_094704907.jpgIMG_20210523_094742586_HDR.jpg

The best place to start our tour is undoubtedly the Plaza Mayor, and it is not named for its large size if not quite the opposite, it is a very beautiful and striking small square, around it we find several merchants, artisans and food stores that delight us with a variety of breads and sweets typical of this region. As we move through these streets we will discover all those details that make Alquézar such a special town. I am very struck by the fact that most of the doors have an engraving, which simulates the print of a pair of shoes.

IMG_2021058_154556153_HDR.jpgIMG_20210321_154556153_HDR.jpgIMG_20216983_154556153_HDR.jpg

Another curiosity that we saw is that there are small canals on the ground where water flows and that these are used to irrigate the orchards that are located in the lower part of the town. While observing in detail the surroundings we noticed that all the houses had some pantries on the outside and another curious fact is that as we continued with the tour we saw that the small town is full of many alleys that connect with each other.

IMG_20210523_094704907.jpgIMG_20210523_094742586_HDR.jpgIMG_20210523_092410178.jpg

In short, as a valuable proof that it is a special tour, is that this city has been declared of Historical and Artistic interest, for its impressive architectural and religious heritage, which will not leave any visitor indifferent. This wonderful town can be described as a perfect creation between rocks, water and a lot of history, walking through these stone streets makes you have the feeling of moving to the past and be a witness in the first line of one of the best times of greatest boom in those years.

IMG_20210523_15458793_HDR.jpgIMG_20210523_154898873_HDR.jpg

But, in addition, Alquézar is also known for its sports offers, tours and activities in nature, having as main attraction the hiking trails among its mountains and activities for hikers. And it is precisely, the Ruta de las Pasarelas one of the most popular activities to do on a visit to Alquézar and of course we will go along it.

IMG_20210523_154556147_HDR.jpg

We will now make the route along the footbridges of Alquézar. To control a little access to the river that is there, they have placed a small tourist gate and for which we will have to pay 4 euros, once acquired the ticket a worker of the council gives us a helmet and a chain insurance to all of us who are there, and also helps us to put it on well, gives us indications to be very careful in the initial descent because it is usually slippery at some points of the route.

IMG_20210523_110516286_HDR.jpgIMG_20210789_154556153_HDR.jpg

Soon we are approaching a fairly steep descent in which we must pay attention to the amount of wet leaves that we find there because if not, we could have a little slip which we were previously informed by the town hall worker, so if he was quite right. However, in some sections of the route we find some wooden stairs that save us the effort of walking along this long path.

IMG_20210523_111719488.jpg

When we had been walking for a little over half an hour, at a fairly leisurely pace, walking carefully and enjoying all this wooded environment, we came to a detour, and with a signpost indicates that on the right continues the marked route of the walkways and the left we would find the Picamartillo Cave which is expected that we first went there before continuing with the route of the walkways. Once there we took the opportunity to take pictures, rest a little, wet our faces with the water that surrounds the rocks and of course we sat down to eat a small sandwich to continue with more energy the route that awaited us, then we returned by the previous route and we headed on the route.

IMG_2021083_154556153_HDR.jpgIMG_20210523_105938369_HDR.jpg

IMG_2027923_154556153_HDR.jpg

In our hike we found a huge rock in the middle of the road and that forms a very natural and impressive tunnel, we passed between it and began to see the first stairs of the walkways that will guide us the route very close to the mountain from here on. Undoubtedly, it has seemed to me the most beautiful and spectacular route of this tour as we walk through this stone canyon, to our left we will see a number of pools of water that have a totally charming turquoise color.

IMG_202107863_154556153_HDR.jpgIMG_20210523_111726935.jpg

At this point the road begins to be flatter and wider and is the one that will take us back to Alquézar, this already has a duration of about 20 minutes uphill and could be the most complicated stretch physically, but nothing we advance slowly and we are enjoying it, at this point we find several crops of fruits and vegetables that come out to the road.

IMG_20210523_15459873_HDR.jpgIMG_20210523_154598153_HDR.jpg

Finishing this impressive route, we find the Church of San Miguel, that the truth at this point we say goodbye to the tour with stunning panoramic views of much of the people. In short, the Route of the footbridges of Alquézar is an obligatory complement that we must visit in our walk through the village, it can be done by children and adults, athletes or not, as it would not have major drawbacks, but what I assure you is that you will not regret it and you will be shocked with its stunning natural views.

Yes exactly, it is a very old town, all from medieval times, the streets, the houses are made of stone and are still preserved.

Wow that's nice.I cant imagine how it was built.Very unique.

Thank you so much for sharing detailed pictures of the place, as if you took us with you!

That was the idea, that you could enjoy the tour between the lines and photos. a big greeting and thanks

Beautiful images of a beautiful town!

If it is a very magical place, thanks for your comments

next year I will definitely make a trip to Spain I'm just trying to figure out if it's better to go to the Seville or Zaragoza side

Well, if you do it through Zaragoza or Seville, everything will depend more or less on what activity plans you have in mind. In Zaragoza in the center we have mountain tourism, many towns with very magical places and in the south an area of beaches. Any advice you need you can tell me and I will gladly help you decide and guide you
