I explore the towns and villages of Italy step by step. Last Saturday, my trip was to the north-west of Italy, to the province of Lombardy. The town of Peschiera del Garda is located on the shores of the picturesque Lake Garda. I chose this city because you can see both the city and the lake in one day. And also because the city is easily accessible by rail. In an hour and 35 minutes, I arrived at a small but tidy station. There was everything a traveler needs. The staff is polite and always ready to help. A small cozy cafe, where I drank a cup of cappuccino, also made a good impression.

Я досліджую крок за кроком міста та села Італії. В минулу суботу моя мандрівка була на північний захід Італії в провінцію Ломбардія. На березі мальовничого озера Гарда розташоване містечко Песк'єра дель Гарда. Я вибрала це місто через те, що за один день можна побачити і місто і озеро. А також через те, що до міста чудовий доїзд залізничним транспортом. За годину і 35 хвилин я прибула на маленьку але охайну станцію. Там було все, що потрібно подорожувальнику. Персонал ввічливий і завжди готовий допомогти. Маленьке затишне кафе , де я випила горнятко капучіно також справило гарне враження.
The town of Peschiera del Garda has a long history. There were traces of settlement at this place as early as 1500-1100 BC. The city's coat of arms features two eagles and a star. Pliny the Elder mentioned this city in his writings. Romans, Gauls ruled the city. During the rule of the Lombards in the 7th century, the city got its modern name because of the huge amount of fish that was caught in Lake Garda. The city is built in the place where the river Mincho begins its course from the lake. The city is built in the shape of a five-pointed star.

Massive walls protected the city from all sides. And now they make quite an impression. How many centuries have passed, and the walls stand firm and remind us of their glorious history.
I examined these age-old walls from all sides, which seemed to have grown out of the water. Along the city there are deep and wide canals, which also served as another means of defense. Now pleasure boats ply along the canals. I saw young people in kayaks and canoes sailing on the turquoise surface. The restaurant is located on a huge barge and invites you to taste their signature dishes.
Масивні стіни захищали місто з усіх сторін. І зараз вони справляють неабияке враження. Скільки віків пройшло, а мури стоять непохитно і нагадують нам про свою славну історію.
Я з усіх сторін оглядала ці вікові мури, що ніби виросли з води. Вздовж міста знаходяться глибокі та широкі канали, що також служили ще одним оборонним засобом.Зараз по каналах курсують прогулянкові катери. Я бачила молодих людей на байдарках та каное, що пливуть по бірюзовій гладі. Ресторан розташувався на величезній баржі і запрошує посмакувати їхні фірмові страви.
Many architects left their mark in this small city. One of them is Michele Sanmicheli, under whose leadership the Porta Verona was built in 1553. This is a huge city gate, which even now is a portal from modern times to ancient history. When you look, you can see that the gate has three arched entrances. Two smaller ones on the sides and one large central one. Above the entrance I see a bas-relief of a winged lion, symbolizing the rule of the Venetian Republic.
Немало архітекторів залишили слід в цьому невеликому місті. Один з них це Мікелє Санмікелі, під чиїм керівництвом були побудовані Порта Верона у 1553 році. Це величезна міська брама, яка і зараз являється порталом з сучасності в давню історію. Коли дивитися то можна бачити , що ворота мають три арочні входи. Два менші по боках і один великий центральний. Над входом я бачу барельєф крилатого лева, що символізує панування Венеціанської республіки.
I walk through the gardens of Catullo Park to the center of Peschiera del Garda. In front of my eyes is the canal of Canallie di Mezzo with clear crystal water of green-blue color. This is the biggest channel of all. Boats are moored on both sides of the canal.

On the left side is the high, massive bridge of Voltoni. It was built in 1556. The bribge has five arches. The bridge was built after the construction of the fortress. A wonderful panorama opens from the bridge.

The city center contains many historical and architectural monuments. But all of them are military and defensive in nature. These are the powder warehouse, barracks of Francis I, bastions, former military hospital and others. The fortress of Peschiera del Garda is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is protected by the state.

Another gate that opened the entrance to the city is called Porta Brescia. The gate was built according to the project of Anton Maria Lorgna in 1766–1770. This gate is also called the village gate. I went from Port Verona to Port Brescia very quickly. Inside the gate I saw an exhibition of paintings, which I looked at with pleasure.
Ще одні ворота, що відкривали вхід до міста називаються Порта Брешія. Ворота були побудовані за проектом Антона Марії Лоргна у 1766–1770 роках. Ці ворота ще називають сільськими воротами. Від Порта Верона до Порта Брешія я пройшла дуже швидко. Всередині воріт я побачила виставку картин, яку з задоволенням оглянула.
The entire central part of the city is filled with various cafes and bars. The streets are lined with tables where tourists rest under umbrellas with a glass of wine.
Вся центральна частина міста наповнена різноманітними кафе і барами. Вулиці заставлені столиками, де під парасолями відпочивають туристи за келихом вина.
When I went to one of the viewing platforms, the beautiful Lake Garda spread out before my eyes with its ships, boats and turquoise water. The mountain range of the Alps with its snow-capped peaks protects the lake from winds from the north. It's such a perfect picture that you can't take your eyes off of.
Коли я вийшла на один з оглядових майданчиків, перед моїми очима розкинулось прекрасне озеро Гарда з його кораблями, катерами і бірюзовою водою. Гірський хребет Альп з його засніженими вершинами захищає озеро від вітрів з північного боку. Це така ідеальна картинка, від якої неможливо відірвати погляд.
Then I went to the beach, which has a good name Beach of capuccini. The beach is narrow with small pebbles and huge stones. The water near the shores is quite cloudy, milky in color. Also very shallow. To splash in the water, you need to walk 100 meters, or even more. A rocky bottom also does not bring pleasure, but rather unpleasant sensations. I think that it is worth going to the sea for swimming. But this is my personal opinion.
Потім я пішла на пляж, що носить гарну назву Beach of capuccini. Пляж вузький з дрібною галькою і величезним камінням. Вода біля берегів доволі каламутна, молочного кольору. Ще й дуже мілко. Щоб похлюпатися у воді потрібно йти метрів 100, а то й більше. Камяне дно також не приносить задоволення, а швидше неприємні відчуття. Думаю, що для купання варто їхати до моря. Але це моя особиста думка.
Everyone finds something beautiful and useful in this city. Someone visits the architectural and historical buildings that are the hallmark of Peschiera del Garda. Someone likes cycling along the promenade or on a pleasure boat on the lake. You can just lie on the beach and sunbathe while watching the seagulls dissecting the blue sky.
But I 100% recommend coming to this small resort town on the shore of a large lake!

Кожен знаходить для себе щось красиве і корисне в цьому місті. Хтось заходиться архітектурними та історичними будівлями, що є візитівкою Песк'єри дель Гарда. Комусь подобається катання на велосипеді вздовж набережної чи на прогулянковому катері по озері. Можна просто лежати на пляжі та засмаги, спостерігаючи за чайками, що розсікають голубе небо.
Але 100 % рекомендую приїхати в це маленьке курортне містечко на березі великого озера!
