In today's post, I want to tell you about a place that I had the good fortune to visit because I stayed there, in fact this very prestigious villa a few years ago was transformed into a beautiful bed and breakfast, very nice with a view of the beautiful Dolomites.
It is Villa Buzzati traverso, the birthplace of an Italian writer, journalist, but also painter, in short, a great character who contributed to the development of the world of Italian culture.
Dino Buzzati traverso was born in Belluno in 1906 and died in the city of Milan in 1972, in fact he had moved to Milan some time before because he became a great journalist for the famous newspaper Il Corriere della Sera.
His birthplace was a great inspiration to him, and I must say that even if this place has become a characteristic bed and breakfast, it has retained the charm and atmosphere of when he lived there.
The villa is located practically 2 km from the city of Belluno, in a very rural area used for agriculture, to the left of the more famous Piave river.
In a very hidden part of this villa, a small museum has of course also been set up in memory of the artist, with several of his publications that you can also read, also because I tell you in all sincerity, I knew almost nothing about this person, but from my point of view, it is also right to remember him.
Naturally, the villa was still built in the 1600s, apparently Buzzati's parents had inherited it long before he was born, as you can see from the photo the villa was frescoed on the outside, and although numerous restorations were carried out as it was written inside the villa in the 1800s, unfortunately time has ruined these frescoes a lot.
In the beautiful garden surrounding this magnificent villa, a beautiful little church was built around 1800, which unfortunately cannot be visited because work is being carried out on the interior.
The writer chose to be buried right here near the villa in a small cemetery that can be visited, while the villa can be visited with guided tours that are organised for special events, or you can stay as I did in the bed and breakfast that has been created inside.
