Christ's Viewpoint, to see Choroní in 360º / Mirador del Cristo, para ver Choroní en 360º [ENG-ESP]

Apart from the beaches, the mountain is also a protagonist in the landscape of Choroní, Aragua state (Venezuela), and an icon of this town is there, the Viewpoint of the Christ (Mirador del Cristo), on a hill that is accessed by a path that is located next to the bridge over the river that you have to pass to go to Playa Grande.

Aparte de las playas, la montaña también es protagonista en el paisaje de Choroní, estado Aragua (Venezuela), y un icono de este pueblo está allí, el Mirador del Cristo, en un cerro al que se accede por un sendero que se encuentra a un lado del puente sobre el río que tienes que pasar para ir a Playa Grande.

With my friend Carol we went there at sunset, after having spent the whole day at the beach, first at Tinikijima and then at Playa Grande. Although there are also people who go up very early in the morning, the most popular time is after 6:00 pm.

Con mi amiga Carol fuimos para allá al atardecer, después de haber pasado todo el día en la playa, primero en Tinikijima y luego en Playa Grande. Aunque también hay gente que sube muy temprano en la mañana, la hora más popular es después de las 6:00 pm.

We take the trail, while you arrive at the entrance that welcomes you to the viewpoint, you can see the picturesque boats parked on the river.

Tomamos el sendero, mientras llegas a la entrada que te da la bienvenida al mirador, puedes ver las pintorescas embarcaciones estacionadas en el río.

On one of the walls of the official entrance is written the following information about the place:

En una de las paredes de la entrada oficial está escrita la siguiente información sobre el lugar:

From here all the ascent is by steps and flat concrete parts, it is not very long, in less than 10 minutes you get there. Well, at least it was my case, some people take longer, it all depends on your physical condition and if you stop to take pictures or simply to admire the landscape 😉.

A partir de aquí todo el ascenso es por escalones y partes planas de cemento, no es muy largo, en menos de 10 minutos llegas. Bueno, al menos fue mi caso, hay gente que se tarda más, todo depende de la condición física y de si te detienes a tomar fotos o simplemente a admirar el paisaje 😉.

As you ascend you will appreciate the whole town, without a doubt Choroní and Puerto Colombia are located in a privileged place, of spectacular natural beauty.

A medida que asciendes vas apreciando todo el pueblo, sin duda Choroní y Puerto Colombia están enclavados en un lugar privilegiado, de espectacular belleza natural.

The first time I was here was several years ago, the place is a little different, but for the better. In April of this year this viewpoint was completely restored with the participation of the organized community and several governmental entities.

La primera vez que estuve aquí fue hace varios años, el lugar está un poco diferente, pero para mejor. En el mes de abril de este año se restauró integralmente este mirador con la participación de la comunidad organizada y varios entes gubernamentales.

Although the afternoon was cloudy the views didn't lose beauty, and look at that xerophytic vegetation, all along the way there are large and small cacti.

Aunque la tarde se nubló las vistas no perdieron belleza, y miren esa vegetación xerófila, en todo el camino hay cactus grandes y pequeños.

In the last part, the narrow steps give way to wider ones that lead to a statue of Jesus crucified.

En la última parte los escalones angostos dan paso a otros más anchos que te llevan a donde se encuentra una estatua de Jesús crucificado.

I didn't find anywhere the official history of how the Christ's Viewpoint was created, I think a tourist spot as frequented as this one should have a sign with this information. However, as a journalist, I inquired here and there and what is said in town is that it was a man who mounted the statue there (approximately in 1932) to pay a promise for having been healed of a condition.

No conseguí en ninguna parte la historia oficial de cómo fue creado el Mirador del Cristo de Choroní, creo que un punto turístico tan frecuentado como este debería tener un cartel con esta información. Sin embargo, como periodista que soy, indagué por aquí y por allá y lo que se dice en el pueblo es que fue un señor el que montó la estatua allí (aproximadamente en el año 1932) para pagar una promesa por haber sido sanado de una afección.

However it was, this person came across an impressive scenario, perhaps he didn't imagine that it would become what it has been for several years now, a place to observe Choroní in 360º.

Como haya sido, esta persona dio con un escenario impactante, quizás no se imaginó que se convertiría en lo que es desde hace varios años ya, un lugar para observar Choroní en 360º.

The wild tropical beauty here is manifested everywhere you look: the village with the mountains in the background, the coast, the Caribbean Sea, the cliffs, it's a powerful combination, don't you think?

La salvaje belleza tropical que hay aquí se manifiesta a donde quiera que mires: el pueblo con las montañas de fondo, la costa, el mar Caribe, los acantilados, es una combinación poderosa ¿no creen?

But there is more, behind the statue of Christ the trail continues and you can reach the lighthouse, it is not very far, you can see it in the center of the photo below. Unfortunately this time I couldn't go because it was already getting dark and my cell phone had little battery left to use the flashlight, this route is not illuminated like the viewpoint, but I hope to come back soon and know it.

Pero hay más, detrás de la estatua del Cristo el sendero continúa y puedes llegar al faro, no está muy lejos, se ve en el centro de la foto a continuación. Lamentablemente esta vez no pude ir porque ya estaba oscureciendo y a mi celular le quedaba poca pila para usar la linterna, esa ruta no tiene iluminación como el mirador, pero espero volver pronto y conocerlo.
