As I told you in my previous post, we arrived in Choroní at noon and after getting settled in the inn we immediately went to the beach. We walked along the main street of Puerto Colombia and we found the river crossing, where you can either get your feet wet as I did or go over the bridge as my friend Carol did.
Como les conté en mi publicación anterior, llegamos a Choroní al mediodía y luego de instalarnos en la posada nos fuimos inmediatamente hacia la playa. Caminamos por la calle principal de Puerto Colombia y nos encontramos con el cruce del río, allí puedes pasar mojándote los pies como hice yo o ir por el puente como hizo mi amiga Carol.
In this part of the river you can see a lot of boats parked, both of fishermen and those who work taking tourists to the different beaches that are in this part of the coast of Aragua state and which are only accessible by sea.
En esta parte del río puedes ver un montón de lanchas estacionadas, tanto de los pescadores como de los que trabajan llevando a los turistas a las diferentes playas que hay en esta parte de la costa del estado Aragua y a las que sólo se accede por mar.
On the other side of the river there are some houses that also sell food and drinks and then begins the road to Playa Grande (Large Beach), the main of Choroní and the most visited because of its easy access.
Del otro lado del río hay algunas viviendas que también venden comidas y bebidas y luego empieza la carretera hacia Playa Grande, la principal de Choroní y la más visitada por su fácil acceso.
The last time I was here a few years ago, the whole right side of this road was full of improvised constructions selling everything from food to bathing suits. There was a lot of mess and it didn't look pretty because the stalls were built with any material: blocks, logs, zinc, etc. I was glad to see that they were no longer there, further ahead are built some modules that is obvious were planned for this type of commercial activity, but they are not operational.
La última vez que estuve aquí hace unos años, todo el lado derecho de esta vía estaba lleno de tarantines (construcciones improvisadas) que vendían desde comida hasta trajes de baño. Había mucho desorden y no se veía bonito porque los puestos estaban construidos con cualquier material: bloques, troncos, zinc, etc. Me alegró ver que ya no estaban allí, más adelante están construidos algunos módulos que se ve fueron planificados para este tipo de actividad comercial, pero no están operativos.
A few minutes later we arrived at the entrance to the beach, there they have built a boulevard (it didn't exist the last time I came) where there are services such as restaurants, bathrooms and showers.
Unos minutos después llegamos a la entrada de la playa, allí han construido un bulevar (no existía la última vez que vine) donde hay servicios como restaurantes, baños y duchas.
Since 1976 Playa Grande has been considered a Recreational Park and is under the protection of the National Parks Institute (Inparques).
Desde 1976 Playa Grande se considera Parque Recreacional y está bajo el resguardo del Instituto Nacional de Parques (Inparques).
We walked down a ramp that has the boulevard at one end and finally our feet touched the sand.
Bajamos por una rampa que tiene el bulevar en un extremo y por fin nuestros pies tocaron la arena.
A dense forest of coconut trees precedes the beach, no doubt giving you a spectacular welcome.
Un denso bosque de cocoteros precede a la playa, sin duda te da una espectacular bienvenida.
Some of these coconut trees had already fulfilled their useful life and were lying on the ground or without leaves, dying, but next to them I saw new ones planted. Fortunately there are environmental organizations that have taken care of this with private and governmental support.
Algunos de estos cocoteros ya habían cumplido su vida útil y estaban tumbados en el suelo o sin hojas ya, muriendo, pero a su lado vi sembrados unos nuevos. Afortunadamente hay organizaciones ambientalistas que se han ocupado de esto con apoyo privado y gubernamental.
We moved on and now Playa Grande was in front of us in its full extension. As you can see, it was quite cloudy, but that was not going to stop us from enjoying the rest of the afternoon.
Avanzamos y ahora sí tuvimos ante nosotras Playa Grande en toda su extensión. Como pueden ver, la tarde estaba bastante nublada, pero eso no nos iba a impedir disfrutar.
It was Friday and there were not so many people, anyway most of them were concentrated at the beginning of the beach, we preferred to walk further and get away from the crowd.
Era viernes y no había tanta gente, de todas formas la mayoría se concentra al inicio de la playa, nosotras preferimos caminar más allá y ubicarnos lejos de la multitud.
Playa Grande is about 1 km long, it is the longest of this coastal area and the fact that it is surrounded by the mountains of Henri Pittier National Park, gives it an incomparable beauty. Because the current is strong here, there are several lifeguard stations, many people have drowned for going too far out to sea and from time to time you hear the whistles that warn those who stray too far that they should return near the shore.
Playa Grande tiene como 1 Km de extensión, es la más larga de esta zona costera y el hecho de que se encuentre rodeada de las montañas del Parque Nacional Henri Pittier, le otorga una belleza incomparable. Debido a que la corriente es fuerte aquí, hay varios puestos de salvavidas, se ha ahogado mucha gente por adentrarse demasiado en el mar y de vez en cuando escuchas los silbatos que advierten a los que se alejan mucho que deben regresar cerca de la orilla.
Despite the cloudy weather, which can bring down your spirits on the beach, the atmosphere was pleasant. Since there was no sun, we didn't look for shade, we simply left our things on the sand and went into the water! I thought it would be cold, but no, it was warm, nice for swimming. These last few months it has been so hot that it could not be otherwise, the seas have also warmed up...
A pesar de lo nublado, que puede bajarte los ánimos en la playa, el ambiente estaba agradable. Como no había sol no buscamos ubicarnos debajo de alguna sombra, simplemente dejamos nuestras cosas en la arena y ¡al agua! Pensé que estaría fría, pero no, estaba tibia, sabrosa para bañarse. Estos últimos meses ha hecho tanto calor que no podría ser de otra forma, los mares también se han calentado…
That day must have been low profit for those who rent the awnings and chairs here, why pay for shade if the sun didn't come out? 😃. Where you did see movement was in the food and beverage services, the workers of the restaurants that are on the boulevard at the entrance, walk all along the beach offering their dishes and bring them to you wherever you are sitting. We had brought something to eat for that afternoon and we preferred to spend money later on a good dinner.
Ese día debe haber sido poco rentable para los que alquilan los toldos y sillas aquí, ¿para qué pagar por la sombra si el sol no salió? 😃. Donde sí se veía movimiento era en los servicios de comidas y bebidas, los trabajadores de los restaurantes que están en el bulevar de la entrada, caminan toda la playa ofreciendo sus platos y te los llevan donde estés sentado. Nosotras habíamos llevado algo de comer para esa tarde y preferimos gastar dinero más tarde, en una buena cena.
After taking our dips, we sat down to enjoy the scenery and chat, I hadn't seen my friend Carol since November last year and although we keep in touch by phone, it's not the same, so we caught up with beers in between which she ordered 😃. I don't usually drink, but I had one to celebrate the meeting 🍻.
Después de darnos nuestros chapuzones, nos sentamos a disfrutar el paisaje y conversar, no veía a mi amiga Carol desde noviembre del año pasado y aunque nos mantenemos en contacto por teléfono, no es lo mismo, así que nos pusimos al día con cervezas de por medio que ella pidió 😃. No suelo beber, pero me tomé una para celebrar el encuentro 🍻.
Then we went for a walk to the end of the beach, there appeared a dog that accompanied us for a while, her name: Negrita, a man who works here and knows her told us.
Luego nos fuimos a caminar hasta el final de la playa, por allí apareció una perrita que nos acompañó un rato, su nombre: Negrita, nos lo dijo un señor que trabaja aquí y la conoce.
At that moment a few drops fell but fortunately it didn't rain, so we stayed a little longer to watch the sunset. Despite the cloudy weather it wasn't bad, how about these colors?
En ese momento cayeron unas gotas pero afortunadamente no llovió, así que nos quedamos un rato más para ver el atardecer. A pesar de lo nublado no estuvo mal, ¿qué tal estos colores?
On our way back we found out that the electricity had gone out in town, about two hours or so ago. We arrived at the inn, it was not yet completely dark and we were told that the service for sure would be restored soon. We went to take a bath and then went out to look for options to eat, there are several places that have power plants and they were working normally. We walked around and came across a place called Paco's Pizza, where we ate a huge pizza called Choroní, of course it was with marine ingredients, it was delicious, recommended!
Cuando íbamos de regreso nos enteramos de que se había ido la electricidad en el pueblo, hacía unas dos horas o algo así. Llegamos a la posada, aún no había oscurecido del todo y nos dijeron que seguro de un momento a otro restablecerían el servicio. Fuimos a bañarnos y luego salimos a buscar opciones para comer, hay varios sitios que cuentan con plantas eléctricas y estaban trabajando con normalidad. Caminamos por ahí y nos topamos con un local llamado Paco's Pizza, donde nos comimos una pizza enorme llamada Choroní, por supuesto era con ingredientes marinos, estaba buenísima, ¡recomendada!
When we left the restaurant the lights had not yet arrived, with our cell phones we were illuminating our steps to return to the inn, but there were also places with many lights, like this luxurious hotel that you see in the photo and helped to illuminate the road.
Cuando salimos del restaurante aún no había llegado la luz, con los celulares íbamos alumbrando nuestros pasos para regresar a la posada, pero había también lugares con muchas luces, como este lujoso hotel que ven en la foto y ayudaban a iluminar el camino.
When we arrived at our inn we were informed that the problem would be extended because it had been a failure that occurred in a high part of the mountain, so we spent some heat at night because we couldn't use the air conditioning. In the morning the electricity still had not arrived, so we left early to a beautiful beach that I will show you in another post and when we returned we were told that by mid-morning finally the electricity service was restored, so we went to the inn to charge the batteries of our phones and after noon we returned to Playa Grande, this time we could enjoy it with radiant sunshine 😃.
Cuando llegamos a nuestra posada nos informaron que el problema se extendería porque había sido una falla que ocurrió en una parte alta de la montaña, así que pasamos algo de calor en la noche porque no pudimos usar el aire acondicionado. En la mañana aún no había llegado la electricidad, así que nos fuimos temprano a una preciosa playa que les mostraré en otra publicación y cuando regresamos nos dijeron que a media mañana finalmente el servicio eléctrico fue restablecido, entonces fuimos a la posada a cargar las baterías de nuestros teléfonos y después del mediodía volvimos a Playa Grande, esta vez sí pudimos disfrutarla con sol radiante 😃.

¡Cómo cambia todo el paisaje cuando el cielo está despejado!
We bought some empanadas in town and when we got to the beach we sat down to eat on the sand under the coconut trees.
Compramos unas empanadas en el pueblo y al llegar a la playa nos sentamos a comer en la arena bajo los cocoteros.
Then we walked for a while along the shore of the beach to get away from the crowd, as it was Saturday there were many more people than the day before.
Luego caminamos un rato por la orilla de la playa para ubicarnos lejos de la multitud, como era sábado había mucha más gente que el día anterior.
Before, many people used to camp here, but there were no bathrooms and it got out of control because people used to relieve themselves here, affecting the ecosystem and contaminating the beach with all kinds of waste. Fortunately, the matter was taken care of and camping has been prohibited for several years because this is also a site where sea turtles come to lay their eggs.
Antes muchos acampaban aquí, pero no había baños y eso se salió de control porque la gente hacía sus necesidades por ahí afectando el ecosistema y contaminando la playa con todo tipo de desperdicios. Afortunadamente se tomaron cartas en el asunto y desde hace varios años está prohibido acampar porque además este es un sitio donde las tortugas marinas vienen a desovar.
Playa Grande is very clean, you can tell that the people who work here care about keeping everything in order.
Playa Grande está muy limpia, se nota que las personas que trabajan aquí se preocupan por mantener todo en orden.
We got some shade under some coconut trees and settled there for the afternoon.
Conseguimos sombra debajo de unos cocoteros y allí nos instalamos a pasar la tarde.
Again the water temperature was warm, the waves were not too strong, so we dove in without any problems.
Nuevamente la temperatura del agua estaba tibia, las olas no eran muy fuertes, así que nos zambullimos sin problemas.
I say goodbye with one last shot of this Venezuelan tropical paradise, I hope you enjoyed seeing it in its two versions: cloudy and sunny.
Me despido con una última toma de este paraíso tropical venezolano, espero que les haya gustado verlo en sus dos versiones: nublado y soleado.

Muy buenos recuerdos me traen tus fotos, si logras ir a chuao no te pierdas el paseo hasta la cascada y claro comer del delicioso chocolate, algo que me encanta de playa grande son las olas para mí, las playas sin olas son aburridas por eso playa grande me encanta jeejej.
