In today's part of my travel notes on the long-distance European route E3, we will look at the Beskydy Mountains, which are the westernmost part of the Carpathian Mountains, which stretches across almost all of Eastern Europe. In addition, we will get to know the traps that these mountains offer.
V dnešním díle mých zápisků z cest po dálkové Evropské trase E3 se podíváme do Beskyd, které jsou nejzápadnější částí Karpatského pohoří, jež se táhne skoro přes celou východní Evropu. A navíc se seznámíme s nástrahami, které tyto hory nabízejí.
By the seventh day in this stage, I woke up at the top of Svinec hill very early before the alarm clock on the advice of a woman who lives in a nearby village. Because the hill is often used by runners with free-roaming dogs. So I had plenty of time to prepare to photograph the sunrise.
Do sedmého dne v této etapě jsem se probudil na vrcholu kopce Svinec hodně brzy před zazvoněním budíku na radu jedné ženy, která žije v blízké vesnici. Protože kopec je často využíván běžci s volně pobíhajícími psy. Takže jsem měl dostatek času se připravit na fotografování východu slunce.
Just down the hill in the village of Kojetín, I was greeted by a memorable Large-leaved Linden with a respectable trunk circumference of 525 cm.
Hned po kopcem mě v obci Kojetín přivítala památná Lípa Velkolistá s úctyhodným obvodem kmene 525cm.
As this area is geologically very diverse due to volcanic activity in ancient history, we can find several small natural monuments with various rock formations and related plants in a small area.
Jelikož je toto území geologicky velmi rozmanité díky sopečné činnosti v dávné historii můžeme zde na malém prostoru najít několik malých přírodních památek s různými skalkami a na ně navázaných rostlin.
I continued to Hodslavice, where I stopped at the birthplace of František Palacký, which is a cultural monument. František Palacký is considered one of the greatest Czechs, because as a historian he wrote down the history of the Czech nation in detail. And that is why he is sometimes also called "Father of the Nation". Today, you can meet his image every time you pay with 1000 Czech crowns note.
Dále jsem pokračoval do Hodslavic, kde jsem se zastavil u rodného domu Františka Palackého, který je kulturní památkou. František Palacký je považován za jednoho z největších Čechů, protože jako dějepisec podrobně sepsal dějiny Českého národa. A proto se mu občas také říká "Otec Národa". Dnes se s jeho podobiznou můžete setkat pokaždé když budete platit Českou 1000 korunou.
After quickly replenishing my supplies at the local convenience store, I set off in the direction of the Beskydy hills. The welcome was quite warm. The climb was not as steep as I expected and the mostly beech forests offered a pleasant shade on a hot day. So I got over a few peaks at a leisurely pace.
Po rychlém doplnění zásob v lokální samoobsluze jsem vyrazil směr kopce Beskyd. Přivítání bylo poměrně vřelé. Stoupání nebylo zas tak prudké jak jsem očekával a převážně bukové lesy nabízely příjemný stín v horkém dni. Takže jsem se v pohodovém tempu dostal přes několik vrcholů.
In several places the landscape opened up thanks to the felled trees and for the first time I could look around the landscape.
Na několik místech se krajina otevřela díky vykáceným stromům a poprvé jsem se mohl rozhlédnout do krajiny.
Then I had to descend slightly to the mountain pass named Hodorf to climb again to the Krátká hill (Short) - (767m) where I got my first taste of what the Carpathians will be about. Very steep and demanding climb. The opposite was the peak of Dlouhá (Long) - (859m) to which the ascent was gradual and long, hence the name. But at the top, very strange shapes of local beeches awaited me.
Pak jsem musel lehce sestoupit do sedla jménem Hodorf, abych zase vystoupal na kopce Krátká (Short) - (767m) kde jsem poprvé okusil o čem asi Karpaty budou. Velmi prudká a náročná stoupání. Opak byl vrchol Dlouhá (Long) - (859m) na který byl výstup pozvolný a dlouhý, proto asi ten název. Ale na vrcholu mě čekaly hodně divné tvary místních buků.
From Dlouhá I had a descent to the next place I planned to visit. This was the well and the beginning of the Jičínka river. The place was off the main route but worth the visit. Not only is there very good water, there is also a place to sleep and even a place to wash your feet. Which came as a gift on this hot day.
Z Dlouhé mě čekalo klesání k dalšímu místu, které jsem měl v plánu navštívit. Tím byla studánka a začátek říčky Jičínky. Místo leželo mimo hlavní trasu, ale návštěva stála za to. Nejenomže je zde velmi dobrá voda, je zde i místo na přespání a dokonce i místo na umytí nohou. Což přišlo v tento horký den jako dar.
After washing the feet, all that was left was to continue on to the next destination. It was again off the E3 route, but I wanted to visit it, because it was one of the last possibilities when I could refresh myself with a beer and something good to eat. I succeeded at the top of Velký Javorník (918m). In the end, there were more beers than I expected, so I had to climb the lookout tower next to the cottage in a somewhat more difficult way.
Po umytí nohou nezbývalo než pokračovat dále k dalšímu cíli. Ten opět ležel mimo trasu E3, ale já jsem ho chtěl navštívit, protože to byla jedna z posledních možností kdy jsem se mohl osvěžit pivem a něčím dobrým k jídlu. To se mi povedlo na vrcholu Velký Javorník (918m). Nakonec piv bylo více než jsem předpokládal a tak se mi na rozhlednu, která stála vedle chaty lezlo poněkud těžším způsobem.
It was definitely better to go from the observation tower to mountain pass Pindula than up the hill. There were also several views along the way thanks to the missing forest.
Z rozhledny do sedla Pindula se šlo rozhodně lépe než do kopce. Cestou bylo i několik výhledů díky chybějícímu lesu.
But on the contrary, true Beskyd hell awaited me from Pindula. Average climb of 100 vertical meters per kilometer. Some places were good, but somewhere you couldn't stand how steep the hill was. On the way, I had planned to fill up the water in another well, but it was dry, because at that time Beskyd was suffering from severe drought. So I continued on to the top of Velká Polana (981m), where there was a tourist shelter. Here I planned to spend the night. The situation was similar for two young ladies who came from the opposite direction. When I saw their tourist setup, I wondered how they could survive 7 days in the wilderness of the Beskydy Mountains. Because this is one of the few places where the common wolf is found in the Czech Republic. We had dinner and went to bed.
Ale naopak z Pinduly mě čekalo pravé Beskydské peklo. Průměrné stoupání 100 výškových metrů na kilometr. Některá místa byla v pohodě, ale někde se ani nedalo stát, jak byl kopec prudký. Cestou jsem měl v plánu doplnit vodu v další studánce, ale ta byla vyschlá, protože tou dobou Beskydy trápilo vydatné sucho. Takže jsem pokračoval dále až na vrchol Velká Polana (981m), kde byl turistický přístřešek. Zde jsem plánoval přečkat noc. Podobně na tom byly i dvě slečny, které přisly z opačného směru. Když jsem viděl jejich turistický setup divil jsem se jak mohly přežít 7 dní v divočině jakou Beskydy jsou. Protože to je jedno z mála míst kde se vyskytuje v České republice Vlk obecný. Povečeřeli jsme a šli spát.

Since this was my first visit to the Beskyd Mountains, I didn't know what to expect from the mountains. I was pleasantly surprised by the accessibility and wildness at the same time. So I walked 33.1 Km during the day, visited 15 peaks. Some were easy and others the opposite. In doing so, I overcame an elevation gain of 1536 meters and also descended 1102 meters. In addition, my curiosity deepened as to what awaits me next.
Jelikož toto byla moje první návštěva Beskyd nevěděl jsem co od hor čekat. Byl jsem mile překvapen přístupností a divokostí zároveň. Takže jsem během dne ušel 33.1 Km, navštívil 15 vrcholů. Některé byly snadné a další naopak. Přitom jsem překonal převýšení 1536 metrů a také sestoupal o 1102 metrů. Navíc se ve mě probudila zvědavost co mě čeká dál.

You lose the tops of the trees, but the composition is more in line with the "rule of thirds", and more balanced ). Just my two cents.
Thanks for the suggestion, but in your crop it seems to me that the top of the observation tower is too close to the edge of the photo.
