After completing the southern part of the European long-distance route E10 in the territory of the Czech Republic last year, I had the last section left in the northern part of the country. It took me over a year to force myself to finish this section. At the end of April, this time came and I went to the village of Zahrádky by bus after work. The trip was pleasant, although it took a little longer due to Friday afternoon rush hour.
Po dokončení jižní části Evropské dálkové trasy E10 na území České republiky v minulém roce mi zbýval poslední úsek v severní části republiky. Trvalo mi více než rok se přinutit tuto sekci dokončit. Na konci dubna tato doba nastala a já po práci vyrazil autobusem do obce Zahrádky. Cesta byla příjemná i když trvala o něco déle díky dopravní špičce v pátek odpoledne.
A valley named Peklo (Hell) begins right behind Zahrádky (Gardens). Immediately after descending to the bottom of the valley, a railway bridge will appear above you, on which the line from Česká lípa to Lovosice runs.
Hned za Zahrádkami začíná údolí, které nese jméno Peklo. Hned po sestoupení na dno údolí se nad Vámi objeví železniční most, na kterém vede trať z České lípy do Lovosic.
The entire valley is lined with sandstone rocks and a stream flows at the bottom. So, in some places, lakes are formed around the rocks, which at the time of my visit had a beautiful fresh green color.
Celé údolí je lemováno pískovcovými skalami a na dně protéká potok. Takže místy jsou kolem skal vytvořeny jezírka, které dobou mé návštěvy měli krásně svěží zelenou barvu.
My original plan was to spend the night in one of the naturally formed or man-made caves. which in this area are called rock flats. Unfortunately, the level of the stream was at a higher level, so it was quite humid in all the caves and the temperature was not exactly high for sleeping in a humid environment.
Můj původní plán byl přenocovat v některé z přírodně vytvořených jeskyní, nebo lidmi vytvořenými. kterým se v této oblasti říká skalní byty. Bohužel hladina potoka byla na vyšší úrovni a tak ve všech jeskyních bylo dosti vlhko a teplota nebyla zrovna vysoká na spaní ve vlhkém prostředí.
So I was forced to go through the whole valley to the end, where there are several small quarries and a rock called Skautská skála. There are quite a few options where you can spend the night peacefully, depending on the weather conditions. So I ended day zero here.
Takže jsem byl nucen projít celým údolím až na konec, kde je několik malých lomů a skála, které se říká Skautská. Je zde tedy poměrně dosti možností kde se dá v klidu přenocovat podle povětrnostních podmínek. Tak jsem zde zakončil nultý den.
In the morning I thoroughly explored the surroundings and set off in the direction of Česká lípa.
Ráno jsem pořádně prozkoumal okolí a vyrazil směr Česká lípa.
I walked through the city in the early hours of the morning, because I knew that I had a demanding day ahead of me in terms of the number of kilometers traveled and the meters climbed. Just beyond the city, the landscape opened up to me, which was the exact opposite of the narrow valley.
Městem jsem prošel za časných ranních hodin, protože jsem věděl, že mě čáká náročný den co se počtu ujitých kilometrů týče a vystoupaných metrů. Hned za městem se mi otevřela krajina, což byl přesný opak k těsnému údolí.
There are also several villages along the way where you can see the typical architecture for northern Bohemia, built by the originally German-speaking population, which was forcibly displaced after the Second World War.
Cestou je i několik vesnic kde je možné vidět typickou architekturu, pro severní Čechy postavenou původně německy mluvícím obyvatelstvem, které bylo nuceně vysídleno po druhé světové válce.
Behind the village of Svojkov, the rocks begins to rise again, where there is a Way of the Cross and the Praying Mine, where a chapel is carved into the rock.
Za obcí Svojkov se opět začne stoupat skal kde je křížová cesta a Modlivý důl, kde je kaple vytesaná do skály.
Then I was walking a path through the forest, where there are several majestic trees, including one memorable one. And then you reach the viewpoint of the Sloup rock castle.
Pak mě čekala cesta skrze les, kde je několik majestátních stromů, včetně jednoho památného. Až se dojde na vyhlídku na skalní hrad Sloup.
The rock castle in Sloup v Čechách is one of the most visited monuments in the region, and so there were quite a few visitors at the time. Since I have visited the castle several times in the past, I missed the visit. Plus, I was only halfway through my daily mileage allowance.
Skalní hrad ve Sloupu v Čechách je jednou z nejnavštěvovanějších památek v regionu a tak se zde v dobo tu sešlo dosti návštěvníků. Jelikož jsem hrad navštívil několikrát v minulosti, tak jsem návštěvu vynechal. Navíc jsem byl pouze v polovině denní dávky kilometrů.
Another stop on my way was the city of Nový Bor. In the past, this city was famous for its glass industry. Over the past 30 years, the industry has slowly fallen into obscurity. Apart from a few small private glassworks that specialize more in art. One of these glass factories is also on Palackého náměstí. The owner had one of the houses built from glass and beautifully restored all the surrounding ones.
Další ze zastávek na mé cestě bylo město Nový Bor. Toto město se v minulosti proslavilo díky sklářskému průmyslu. Během posledních 30 let průmysl pomalu upadl v zapomnění. Kromě několika malých soukromých skláren, které se specializují spíše na umění. Jednou z těchto skláren je i na Palackého náměstí. Majitel si nechal jeden z domů postavit ze skla a všechny okolní, krásně zrestauroval.
On the main square you can see several town houses in a similar style as I saw in the surrounding villages. Only much bigger.
Na hlavním náměstí lze vidět, několik měšťanských domů v podobném stylu jako jsem viděl v okolních vesnicích. Jenom o mnoho větších.
From Nový Bor, I went north again to the hill bearing the name Klíč (Key). At the foot of the hill there is a large scree field where you can see mountain chamois. This is one of the few places where these creatures live on the territory of the Czech Republic.
Z Nového Boru jsem se vydal opět na sever ke kopci nesoucí jméno Klíč. Na úpatí kopce je velké suťové pole, kde je možné vidět Kamzíky horské. Jedná se o jedno z mála míst ke tito tvorové žijí na území České republiky.
Another specialty of this hill is that different plants grow on each side of the hill. On the south side, they are more heat-loving plants, on the north side, again, more mountain-type plants. Although the weather was not the best for viewing the surrounding landscape, the views in all directions are magnificent. Then all I had to do was descend from the summit and find a place to spend the night.
Další specialitou tohoto kopce je, že na každé straně kopce rostou jiné rostliny. Na jižní straně jsou to spíše teplomilné rostliny, na severní straně zase spíše zase rostliny horského typu. I když zrovna nebylo nejlepší počasí na sledování okolní krajiny, výhledy do všech směrů jsou nádherné. Pak už mi nezbývalo než sestoupit dolu z vrcholu a najít si nějaké místo na přenocování.
During the zero day I walked 7.7 km and the following day 28.6 km. In doing so, I overcame an elevation gain of 977 meters up and 628 meters down. I visited several places where I had already been in the past and several completely new places for me, such as the Klíč hill.
Během nultého dne jsem ušel 7.7 km a následující den 28.6 km. Přitom jsem překonal převýšení 977 metrů nahoru a 628 metrů klesání. Navštívil jsem několik míst kde jsem již v minulosti byl a několik pro mě zcela nových míst jako byl například kopec Klíč.

Další budou následovat, nějak jsem místo psaní radši vyrážel do terénu.

The pictures with the castle and the fresh green nature are my favourite! I always love surprising nature with that colour!
However my mind still remained to the name of the valley thinking if there is some sort of legend or story behind its scary name?
