Hello everyone! In the last post I already told you about Puerto Escondido. But today I would like to share two more highlights with you that we experienced there. Our last day in the surfer metropolis we spent in a dreamlike beach club. But our most beautiful experience was to accompany baby sea turtles on their way into the ocean. Just read on if you want to know all the details about it.
Hallo zusammen! Im letzten Beitrag habe ich euch ja bereits über Puerto Escondido berichtet. Heute möchte ich euch aber von zwei weiteren Highlights erzählen, die wir dort erlebt haben. Unseren letzten Tag in der Surfer-Metropole verbrachten wir in einem traumhaften Beach-Club. Unser schönstes Erlebnis war es aber, Baby-Meeresschildkröten auf ihrem Weg in den Ozean zu begleiten. Lest einfach weiter, wenn ihre alle Einzelheiten darüber erfahren wollt.
"Villasol" is the name of the beach club that caught my attention after watching some YouTube videos. It is located on the slightly secluded Bacocho Beach. Our cab ride over sandy dirt roads made us a bit skeptical, but when we arrived and spotted the pool shining turquoise blue against a backdrop of numerous palm trees, just steps from the sea, we were immediately sure we would enjoy our day here.
“Villasol" lautet der name des Strandclubs, auf den ich durch einige YouTube-Videos aufmerksam geworden bin. Er befindet sich am etwas abgelegenen Bacocho-Strand. Unsere Taxi-Fahrt über sandige, unbefestigte Straßen machte uns etwas skeptisch, doch als wir ankamen und den türkisblau leuchtenden Pool vor dem Hintergrund zahlreicher Palmen, nur wenige Schritte vom Meer entfernt, erblickten, waren wir uns sofort sicher, dass wir unseren Tag hier genießen würden.
The entrance fee didn't seem too cheap at 600 pesos (US$ 30) per person, but for that you get a credit of the same value for food and drinks. The dishes were really fantastic and, against expectations, not very expensive. Thus, it was not so easy for us to use the full credit over the day. The club also offers sports facilities, such as a tennis court. We can really recommend this beach club without reservation.
Der Eintritt erschien mit 600 Pesos (30€) pro Person nicht allzu günstig, doch dafür bekommt man ein Guthaben im gleichen Wert für Speisen und Getränke. Das Essen war wirklich fantastisch und wider Erwarten auch nicht besonders teuer. Somit fiel es uns gar nicht so leicht, das volle Guthaben über den Tag verteilt, zu verbrauchen. Der Club bietet übrigens auch Sport-Möglichkeiten, wie einen Tennisplatz. Wir können diesen Strandclub wirklich uneingeschränkt empfehlen.
In the late afternoon, we walked north along the beach for about five minutes. This is where the sea turtle camp is located. A charitable organization of volunteers collects sea turtle eggs here every day to breed them under protected conditions. Visitors can then take the newly hatched baby turtles to the water and watch them crawl into the sea. Of course, we didn't want to miss this experience and after a short lecture about the organization, we were ready to start.
Am späten Nachmittag spazierten wir ungefähr fünf Minuten den Strand entlang Richtung Norden. Dort befindet sich nämlich das Meeresschildkröten-Camp. Eine wohltätige Organisation aus Freiwilligen sammelt hier täglich Eier von Meeresschildkröten, um sie unter geschützten Bedingungen auszubrüten. Die frisch geschlüpften Baby-Schildkröten kann man dann als Besucher zum Wasser bringen und sie dabei beobachten, wie sie ins Meer krabbeln. Dieses Erlebnis wollten wir uns natürlich nicht entgehen lassen und nach einem kurzen Vortrag über die Organisation ging es auch schon los.
We were surprised by the rush of visitors, but the liberation of the baby turtles can only be experienced once a day, at 5 pm, which put this into perspective again. We paid 150 pesos each as a donation for the organization and received two coconut shells in which the babies can be transported. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to touch them with your hands, because chemical substances, such as sun creams, could cause damage to the sensitive creatures. However, a few photos and videos are allowed before the release. We could hardly part from our two cuties, which we named "Haribo" and "Jorge". In the end, though, we had to say goodbye and watch them head off into the waves.
Wir waren überrascht vom Besucheransturm, doch die Befreiung der Baby-Schildkröten kann nur einmal pro Tag, um 17 Uhr, erlebt werden, was dies wieder relativierte. Wir bezahlten jeweils 150 Pesos als Spende für die Organisation und erhielten dafür zwei Kokosnuss-Schalen, in denen die Babys transportiert werden. Mit den Händen berühren darf man sie leider nicht, da chemische Stoffe, wie Sonnencremes, Schaden an den sensiblen Wesen anrichten könnten. Ein paar Fotos und Videos sind vor der Freilassung aber erlaubt. Wir konnten uns kaum von unseren beiden Süßlingen trennen, die wir "Haribo" und "Jorge" nannten. Am Ende mussten wir uns aber doch verabschieden und ihnen auf dem Weg in die Wellen zusehen.
Afterwards we walked back to the beach club, relaxed a bit at the pool and used up our remaining credit for food and drinks. Before the club closed at 7pm, we were able to admire a beautiful sunset. Due to the western orientation, we were able to watch the sun seemingly sink into the sea. What a brilliant day! If you ever come to Puerto Escondio, you should definitely plan a day to experience this combination of beach club and baby sea turtle release for yourself!
Anschließend spazierten wir zurück zum Strandclub, entspannten noch etwas am Pool und verbrauchten unser restliches Guthaben für Speisen und Getränke. Bevor der Club um 19 Uhr schloss, konnten wir noch einen wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang bewundern. Durch die westliche Ausrichtung konnten wir der Sonne dabei zusehen, wie sie scheinbar im Meer versank. Was für ein genialer Tag! Falls ihr mal nach Puerto Escondio kommt, plant auf jeden Fall einen Tag ein, um diese Kombination aus Strandclub und Baby-Meeresschildkröten-Befreiung selbst zu erleben!
