Hey guys! Today I would like to present you the third and last part of my travel report about the most beautiful and interesting places in the Mexican state of Querétaro. On the last day of our trip, my girlfriend and I visited another "Pueblo Magico". Tequisquiapan (took me a few days to remember and pronounce it correctly) is the name of the small town located right in the geographical centre of Mexico. Just read on if you want to know how we liked the centre of Mexico.
Hallo Leute! Heute möchte ich euch den dritten und letzten Teil meines Reiseberichts über die schönsten und interessantesten Orte im mexikanischen Bundesstaat Querétaro präsentieren. Am letzten Tag unserer Reise besuchten meine Freundin und ich ein weiteres "Pueblo Magico". Tequisquiapan ist der etwas schwierig auszusprechende und zu merkende Name des kleinen Städtchens, das sich genau im geografischen Zentrum von Mexiko befindet. Lest einfach weiter, wenn ihr wissen wollt, wie uns der Mittelpunkt Mexikos gefallen hat.
Like the whole trip, we travelled also to Tequisquiapan by bus. From Santiago de Querétaro, buses run every 30 minutes during the day. The ticket is very cheap at the equivalent of just US$4. We spent about an hour admiring the barren landscape during the bus ride before we walked the 1.2 km from the bus station to the centre and started exploring the city.
Wie den gesamten Trip über, reisten wir auch nach Tequisquiapan per Bus. Von Santiago de Querétaro fahren die Busse tagsüber im 30 Minuten-Takt. Das Ticket ist mit umgerechnet 4€ sehr günstig. Ungefähr eine Stunde bewunderten wir die karge Landschaft während der Busfahrt, bevor wir die knapp 1,2km vom Busbahnhof zum Zentrum zu Fuß zurücklegten und mit der Stadterkundung begannen.
The first sight we passed was the geographical centre of the country. It is located on the edge of the old town and is marked by a huge pendulum. To our surprise, there were hardly any tourists there, but the further we went towards the city centre, the busier the pretty, well-kept alleys became.
Die erste Sehenswürdigkeit, die wir passierten, war gleich der geografische Mittelpunkt des Landes. Dieser befindet sich am Rande der Altstadt und wird von einem riesigen Pendel markiert. Zu unserer Verwunderung befanden sich dort kaum Touristen. Je weiter wir anschließend in Richtung Stadtzentrum vorstießen, desto belebter wurden die hübschen, gepflegten Gässchen allerdings.
Finally we reached "Plaza Miguel Hidalgo" - the main square of the little town of 30,000 inhabitants. It is surrounded by shady arcades with many nice cafés and shops. There is a kiosk in the middle. You can also find the "Tequis" sign here, which is a popular photo motif. However, the main attraction of the square is the church "Santa María de la Asunción". It shines in different shades of pink and forms a beautiful contrast to the blue sky. There is also a fountain in front of the cathedral.
Schließlich erreichten wir den "Plaza Miguel Hidalgo" - den Hauptplatz des 30.000 Einwohner zählenden Städtchens. Dieser ist von schattigen Arkaden mit vielen netten Cafés und Shops umgeben. In der Mitte befindet sich ein Kiosk. Außerdem findet man hier den "Tequis"-Schriftzug, der ein beliebtes Fotomotiv darstellt. Die Hauptsehenswürdigkeit des Platzes ist aber die Kirche "Santa María de la Asunción". Diese strahlt in verschiedenen Rosatönen und bildet einen schönen Kontrast zum blauen Himmel. Vor der Kathedrale befindet sich ein Springbrunnen.
The main square is undoubtedly the centrepiece and highlight of Tequisquiapan, but it is worth exploring the surrounding streets as well. Some of them are full of market stalls, others completely empty, but no less charming because of the beautifully designed house facades. At no point during our walk did the town seem overly touristy or even crowded. Of all the Pueblos Magicos I have visited so far, Tequisquiapan is the one that comes the closest to the category of an insider tip.
Der Hauptplatz ist zweifellos das Herzstück und Highlight von Tequisquiapan, doch es lohnt sich, auch die umgebenden Straßen zu erkunden. Manche von ihnen sind voller Marktstände, andere wieder völlig leer, aber aufgrund der kunstvoll gestalteten Hausfassaden, nicht weniger charmant. Zu keinem Zeitpunkt während unseres Spaziergangs wirkte die Stadt übertrieben touristisch oder gar überfüllt. Von allen Pueblos Magicos, die ich bisher besucht habe, würde ich Tequisquiapan deshalb am ehesten noch als Geheimtipp bezeichnen.
Towards the end of our visit, we took a stroll through the market hall before leaving the centre and making our way back to the bus station, from where we could enjoy a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains shining in the warm light of the evening sun. With many wonderful memories in our minds, we finally started our last bus ride of this trip, back to Mexico City. Fortunately, this was by far not our last trip within Mexico. Soon I will tell you about the next excursion.
Gegen Ende unseres Besuchs spazierten wir noch durch die Markthalle, bevor wir das Zentrum verließen und uns auf den Rückweg zum Busbahnhof machten, von dem wir einen traumhaften Blick auf die umliegenden Berge genießen konnten, die im warmen Licht der Abendsonne erstrahlten. Mit vielen wundervollen Erinnerungen im Gepäck starteten wir schließlich unsere letzte Busfahrt dieser Reise, zurück nach Mexico City. Zum Glück war dies bei weitem nicht unsere letzte Reise innerhalb Mexikos. Bald werde ich euch von unserem nächsten Ausflug berichten.

I love those colorful buildings and their decorations, especially those hats 😉 That cathedral is impressive and so big for a town of 30000 people. I wonder if it gets full on Sundays 🙂

Wie immer, Hammer Bilder! Aber die geografische Mitte von Mexiko? Ich dachte das wäre eigentlich in der Wüste von Zacatecas, so ungefähr zwischen den Orten Rio Grande und San Tiburcio, am nächsten zu San Juan de Ahorcados. - Aber ich glaube das hängt auch ein bisschen davon ab wie man's misst. Google selber hat drei Marker ganz nah beieinander:

Interessant... Ich bin auch sicher dass beide Recht haben (bzw. alle, denn selbst in Zacatecas gibt es mind. drei Punkte). Es kommt nur darauf an wie man rechnet. Klar, wenn man nicht direkt N-S misst, sondern von Tijuana nach Chetumal eine gerade Linie zieht, kommt man bestimmt auf ein anderes Ergebnis.
