Hello everyone! In the last post I already showed you some highlights of Seattle. Today I would like to introduce you to the Emerald City's most famous landmark. I'll also tell you what else there is to discover near the famous Space Needle and why autumn is a wonderful time of year to visit Seattle.
Hallo zusammen! Im letzten Beitrag habe ich euch bereits einige Highlights von Seattle gezeigt. Heute möchte ich euch das berühmteste Wahrzeichen der Emerald City vorstellen. Außerdem erzähle ich euch, was es in der Nähe der berühmten Space Needle noch alles zu entdecken gibt und warum der Herbst eine wundervolle Jahreszeit ist, um Seattle zu besuchen.
Colorful autumn leaves all over the trees and streets, plus a bright blue sky – it was a glorious afternoon when I made my way to the Space Needle. To get there, I simply followed the Monorail tracks from the city centre. The building itself is visible from afar and you can find ingenious perspectives to photograph it from different angles and with different foregrounds.
Buntes Herbstlaub überall auf den Bäumen und auf den Straßen, dazu ein strahlend blauer Himmel – es war ein herrlicher Nachmittag, an dem ich mich auf den Weg zur Space Needle machte. Dafür folgte ich vom Stadtzentrum aus einfach den Schienen der Monorail. Das Bauwerk selbst erkennt man schon von weitem und man findet immer wieder geniale Perspektiven, um es aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln und mit unterschiedlichen Vordergründen zu fotografieren.
First the monorail tracks took me to the Muesum of Pop Culture. The MoPOP is a unique institution dedicated to the representation and celebration of pop culture in all its facets. Founded in 2000, it houses an impressive collection of exhibits on music, film, science fiction, video games and more. I didn't visit the inside of the building, but with its reflective façade, it's fascinating from the outside as well.
Zuerst führten mich die Monorail-Schienen aber zum Muesum of Pop Culture. Das MoPOP ist eine einzigartige Institution, die sich der Darstellung und Feier der Popkultur in all ihren Facetten widmet. Es wurde 2000 gegründet und beherbergt eine beeindruckende Sammlung von Ausstellungsstücken zu Musik, Film, Science Fiction, Videospielen und mehr. Das Innere des Gebäudes habe ich zwar nicht besichtigt, jedoch fasziniert es mit seiner spiegelnden Fassade auch von außen.
After a short stop at the International Fountain, I walked straight to the city's landmark. The Space Needle was built in 1962 for the World's Fair and rises 184 meters into the air. The top of the tower offers breathtaking views of Seattle and the surrounding region, including Mount Rainier and the Puget Sound region. With its futuristic architecture and rotating restaurant 160 meters above the ground, the Space Needle is a popular tourist destination and a symbol of the city. I found that the autumnal colors provided an ideal contrast to this iconic observation tower.
Nach einem kurzen Stopp an der International Fountain, spazierte ich direkt zum Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Die Space Needle wurde 1962 für die Weltausstellung errichtet und ragt 184 Meter in die Höhe. Die Spitze des Turms bietet eine atemberaubende Aussicht auf Seattle und die umliegende Region, einschließlich des Mount Rainier und der Puget Sound-Region. Mit seiner futuristischen Architektur und einem rotierenden Restaurant in 160 Metern Höhe ist die Space Needle ein beliebtes Touristenziel und ein Symbol für die Stadt. Ich fand, dass die herbstlichen Farben einen idealen Kontrast zu diesem ikonischen Aussichtsturm bildeten.
Unfortunately going to the top of the Space Needle is not exactly cheap. I didn't do it, especially as there are many amazing and totally free viewpoints in Seattle, which I will tell you about in the next posts. However, I did not miss a ride on the famous monorail, which was also built for the 1962 World's Fair. For only $4, you can get right into the city centre in just a few minutes and enjoy great views of the downtown streets.
Die Fahrt zur Spitze der Space Needle ist leider nicht gerade günstig. Ich verzichtete darauf, zumal es sehr viele tolle, kostenlose Aussichtspunkte in Seattle gibt, von den ich euch noch berichten werde. Eine Fahrt mit der berühmten Monorail, die ebenfalls für die Weltausstellung 1962 erbaut wurde, ließ ich mir jedoch nicht entgehen. Für nur 4$ gelangt man innerhalb weniger Minuten direkt ins Stadtzentrum und genießt dabei tolle Ausblicke auf die Straßen der Innenstadt.
Finally, a culinary tip for the fast food fans among you. Dick's Drive In is just a few minutes' walk from the Space Needle. Here you'll find delicious and yet very affordable burgers. In the next post, I will tell you about my two favorite viewpoints and my walk through Chinatown.
Am Ende noch ein kulinarischer Tipp für die Fast Food Fans unter euch. Nur wenige Gehminuten von der Space Needle entfernt findet ihr "Dick's Drive In". Hier bekommt ihr leckere und trotzdem sehr günstige Burger. Im nächsten Beitrag werde ich euch von meinen beiden Lieblings-Aussichtspunkten und meinem Spaziergang durch Chinatown berichten.

I’ve visited this area before and you really have captured its beauty! I definitely need to visit again as the last time I went there was several years ago.
Yes, there might be things that have changed in the last couple of year, also it's always interesting to visit a city at two different seasons. So it's definitely a good idea to visit Seattle again 😊
