Hello guys! Once again, an exciting and adventurous weekend in Mexico lies behind me. This time, my girlfriend and I decided to go on a weekend trip to the state of Querétaro in the centre of the country. We explored three cities in two days. Today I would like to tell you about the largest of them, where we also spent the night. It is the capital of this state - Santiago de Querétaro. Just read on if you want to know why this place is definitely worth a visit.
Hallo Leute! Wieder einmal liegt ein aufregendes und abenteuerliches Wochenende in Mexiko hinter mir. Diesmal entschieden meine Freundin und ich uns für einen Wochenend-Trip in den Bundesstaat Querétaro im Zentrum des Landes. Wir erkundeten drei Städte in zwei Tagen. Von der größten davon, in der wir auch übernachteten, möchte ich euch heute berichten. Es handelt sich um die Hautstadt dieses Bundesstaates - Santiago de Querétaro. Lest einfach weiter, wenn ihr wissen wollt, warum diese Stadt auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert ist.
Santiago de Querétaro is one of the country's larger cities, with a population of around 860,000, and is about a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Mexico City. However, we chose exclusively buses as our form of transport for this trip. We paid the equivalent of $25 per person for the journey and another $6 for the taxi from the bus terminal to the city centre. By the way, Querétaro is one of the Mexican cities where Uber works. We started our city walk in the historic centre of the city, at the "Plaza Constitución".
Santiago de Querétaro zählt mit seinen ungefähr 860.000 Einwohnern zu den größeren Städten des Landes und liegt eine ca. dreieinhalbstündige Autofahrt von Mexico City entfernt. Wir wählten aber ausschließlich Busse als Fortbewegungsmittel für diese Reise. Für die Anreise bezahlten wir umgerechnet 23€ pro Person und nochmals 5€ für das Taxi vom Busbahnhof ins Zentrum. Querétaro zählt übrigens zu den mexikanischen Städten, in denen Uber funktioniert. Unseren Stadtspaziergang begannen wir im historischen Zentrum der Stadt, am "Plaza Constitución".
From there we worked our way further and further east, passed a peaceful demonstration at the "Plaza de Armas Querétaro", the cathedral "Templo de la Cruz" and many pretty alleys and squares with cosy cafés and nice little shops. We really liked how clean and well-kept the city is. We also felt very safe and relaxed.
Von dort arbeiteten wir uns immer weiter nach Osten vor, passierten eine friedliche Demonstration am "Plaza de Armas Querétaro", die Kathedrale "Templo de la Cruz" sowie viele hübsche Gassen und Plätze mit gemütlichen Cafés und netten kleinen Shops. Uns gefiel sehr, wie sauber und gepflegt die Stadt ist. Auch fühlten wir uns sehr sicher und entspannt.
Finally we reached the highlight of our walk - the viewpoint "Mirador de los Arcos". Here you can enjoy a fantastic view of large parts of the hilly city, but especially of Querétaro's main attraction - a 1.2km long aqueduct that runs through the city. This impressive structure served as a water conduit and was built from 1726 to 1738.
Schließlich erreichten wir das Highlight unseres Spaziergangs - den Aussichtspunkt "Mirador de los Arcos". Hier kann man einen traumhaften Blick auf weite Teile der hügeligen Stadt genießen, vor allem aber auf die Hautsehenswürdigkeit Querétaros - ein 1,2km langes Aquädukt, das sich durch die Stadt zieht. Dieses beeindruckende Bauwerk diente als Wasserleitung und wurde von 1726 bis 1738 errichtet.
We then walked down and along the aqueduct to get a close-up look at some of the 74 stone arches, which are more than 5m tall. By the way, Santiago de Querétaro also has many modern buildings to offer. However, we did not have enough time to visit them. Instead, we were able to enjoy the lively and cheerful atmosphere in the old town during an evening walk.
Danach spazierten wir hinab und das Aquädukt entlang, um einige der insgesamt 74 steinernen, mehr als 5m hohen Bögen aus der Nähe zu betrachten. Santiago de Querétaro hat übrigens auch viele moderne Bauwerke zu bieten. Um diese zu besichtigen reichte unsere Zeit jedoch nicht aus. Stattdessen konnten wir die quirlige und ausgelassene Atmosphäre in der Altstadt bei einem abendlichen Spaziergang genießen.
Especially the square "Jardin de Zenea" is the centre of evening activities for residents as well as tourists. The old town of Santiago de Querétaro has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996 and is becoming increasingly popular as an excursion destination. It is a pity that we did not have more time to explore this fascinating city. We felt super comfortable there and can highly recommend a visit. However, there were two more cities on our agenda that we liked even better. I will tell you about the absolute highlight of our trip in the next post.
Besonders der Platz "Jardin de Zenea" bildet das Zentrum der Abendgestaltung für Einwohner als auch Touristen. Die Altstadt von Santiago de Querétaro zählt seit 1996 zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe und wird als Ausflugsziel immer beliebter. Schade, dass wir nicht mehr Zeit hatten, um diese faszinierende Stadt zu erkunden. Wir fühlten uns sehr wohl und können einen Besuch sehr empfehlen. Doch für uns standen noch zwei weitere Städte auf der Agenda, die uns sogar noch besser gefielen. Über das absolute Highlight unserer Reise werde ich euch im nächsten Beitrag berichten.
