Hello friends! After many stressful weeks around my new book release, I finally have time again to tell you about my travels. I'm now back home in Austria, but last month I had a few travel highlights in Mexico. I would like to tell you about the first highlight today. And it's actually not a travel destination at all, but an airport.
Hallo Freunde! Nach vielen stressigen Wochen rund um meine neue Buch-Veröffentlichung habe ich nun endlich wieder Zeit, euch von meinen Reisen zu berichten. Mittlerweile bin ich wieder zuhause in Österreich, doch im letzten Monat gab es so einige Reise-Highlights in Mexiko für mich. Über das erste Highlight davon möchte ich euch heute berichten. Dabei handelt es sich eigentlich um gar kein Reiseziel, sondern einen Flughafen.
Anyone traveling to or from Mexico City is usually confronted with the chaotic and outdated Benito Juarez Airport. You can't imagine how many and what absurd annoyances I have experienced at this place. These would fill a blog post of their own. But did you know that there is a second airport in the metropolitan area of the Mexican capital? The Aeropuerto International Felipe Angeles (AIFA) is located to the north outside the city. My girlfriend and I didn't know what to expect when we booked our first flight from there.
Wer von oder nach Mexico City reist, wird in der Regel mit dem chaotischen und veralteten Benito Juarez Airport konfrontiert. Ihr könnt euch nicht vorstellen, wie viele und was für absurde Ärgernisse ich an diesem Ort schon erlebt habe. Diese würden einen eigenen Blog-Beitrag füllen. Doch wusstet ihr, dass es noch einen zweiten Flughafen im Ballungsraum der mexikanischen Hauptstadt gibt? Der Aeropuerto International Felipe Angeles (AIFA) befindet sich nördlich außerhalb des eigentlichen Stadtgebiets. Meine Freundin und ich wussten nicht, was uns erwarten würde, als wir unseren ersten Flug von dort buchten.
Modern architecture, light-flooded corridors, reflective marble floors and clear structures - what a contrast to the city's main airport! Even the staff were friendly. We immediately felt at home and, for the first time in Mexico, we had the feeling that the enjoyment of our vacation began already at the airport. In the departures area, we were able to admire a replica of the famous Mexican sun stone and the general atmosphere was incredibly relaxed for an airport.
Moderne Architektur, lichtdurchflutete Korridore, spiegelnde Mamor-Fussböden und klare Strukturen – was für ein Kontrast zum Hauptflughafen der Stadt! Sogar das Personal war freundlich. Wir fühlten uns sofort wohl und hatten erstmals in Mexiko das Gefühl, dass der Urlaubsgenuss schon am Flughafen begann. Im Abflug-Bereich konnten wir einen Nachbau des berühmten Mexikanischen Sonnensteins bewundern und ganz allgemein war das Ambiente für einen Flughafen unglaublich entspannt.
The airport was opened in 2022 to relieve pressure on Benito Juárez Airport and increase capacity for air traffic in the region. We can only recommend traveling from this airport if you have the choice. But where did our journey actually take us? I'll tell you about that in the next post.
Der Flughafen wurde im Jahr 2022 eröffnet, um den Flughafen Benito Juárez zu entlasten und die Kapazität für den Luftverkehr in der Region zu erhöhen. Wir können euch nur empfehlen, von diesem Flughafen zu reisen, falls ihr die Wahl habt. Doch wo ging unsere Reise eigentlich hin? Davon werde ich euch im nächsten Beitrag berichten.
