We discovered the fairytale land in Padis area, Apuseni Mountains, Bihor county, Romania
Have you ever daydreamed?
Here in western Romania right now we're in the middle of autumn, when it's nice weather when it's raining and it's ugly outside, so last weekend I was sitting and thinking how nice it would be if one day I woke up in the morning and everything around me was covered in a fluffy white layer of snow.
But that would only be a dream because we haven't had snow for years, I mean that winter with real snow.
So I didn't think too much and I checked how the situation was in high areas but not very far from where I live, I had several options, some were in Bihor county (these were the closest) and the others were in Alba Iulia county (a little further).
In a relatively short time we found out that in the mountainous area of Bihor county there is already a thick layer of snow only good for sledging.
So in the evening we decided that the next day (Sunday) to go to the mountains to see for ourselves if it is true what we learned.
Our destination was the Padis area in the Apuseni mountains, Bihor county.
We had to cover a distance of about 175km which took us about 3 hours, but we also made enough stops for pictures.
The route was easy, from Arad county we had to get to Beius and then follow the signs to the village of Pietroasa, once in this village we started climbing up the mountain near the river Crisul Pietros, I think we reached heaven, we walked for a few minutes and then we pulled the car on the side of the road for pictures and so on.
It's so spectacular that from an autumn atmosphere in hundreds of colors to appear in front of you the image that seems frozen in time, it's absolutely surreal.
In the transition zone between the image of autumn and that of the frozen world we made several stops on the banks of the river Crisul Pietros.
Being an area visited by many tourists we were lucky that the road was cleared and we had no problems climbing, because the Padis area is at an altitude of 1200 meters.
I have researched a little more about this area and it seems that it hides beauties that I have never heard of before, many trails through the forest but also other places with names that have aroused my interest, it would be worth mentioning the cave Focul Viu(Living Fire), Lumea Pierduta(Lost World) or Cheile Galbenei(The Galbenei Gorge).
I will definitely explore them all when summer returns to see if in reality they are as spectacular as the name they bear.
But until then once we got to the Padis area we put our dreams into action, sledging until our noses froze, we hadn't been sledging for a long time.
After such an activity we got hungry so we came to the Bradet hut where we had a soup to warm up a bit, I forgot to tell you that it was -4 degrees outside.

The Romanian cuisine has some very delicious dishes including the soup that I ate at the Bradet cottage in the Padis area, Apuseni mountains.
I would love to hear that you will be visiting Romania and I am even more curious which areas you will choose to see first.
