Hello everybody! I travel quite a bit, but I want to tell you about a wonderful Sunday when my daughter @lilideleopolis and I visited a beautiful place. I mean the Holy Mountain in Zolochiv district in Lviv region (Western Ukraine).
Всім привіт! Я досить мало подорожую, але хочу розповісти вам про чудовий недільний день, коли ми з моєю донькою відвідали одне красиве місце. Я маю на увазі Святу гору у Золочівському районі на Львівщині.
This is not the first time we have been there. I used to write about this place, but every time it gets better and we change as well ... We decided to go at 10 o'clock in the morning to have time for the Liturgy. Our region is very beautiful, there are many hills, which are generally called Voronyakiy. The hills also include Pidlyska Hill, which my daughter often writes about, and this one, the Holy Hill (or Mountain). The height of this plateau is 300-400 meters above sea level. Almost all the hills are covered with deciduous or mixed forest.
Ми не вперше там побували. Але щоразу тут стає краще і ми змінюємось також... Вирішили поїхати вранці на 10 годину, щоб встигнути на службу. Наш край дуже гарний, тут є багато пагорбів, які в загальному називаються Вороняки. Висота цього плоскогір'я 300-400 метрів над рівнем моря. Майже всі пагорби покриті листяним або мішаним лісом.
We drove to the foot of the hill. On the one hand, the eye is pleased with a wide wheat field, on the other - a beech forest. So far there is not even heat and it's great !!! On the Holy Mountain there is now a whole complex: a convent, a wooden church, a summer chapel, a stone cave, a well and a statue of the Virgin Mary, which is a little separate.
Ми під'їхали на машині до підніжжя пагорба. З одного боку око радує широке пшеничне поле, з іншого - буковий ліс. Поки що навіть немає спеки і це чудово!!! На Святій горі тепер є цілий комплекс: будинок чоловічого монастиря, дерев'яна церква, літна каплиця, кам'яна печера, криниця і статуя Діви Марії, що знаходиться трошки окремо.
Archeologists suppose that in the days of ancient Rus' there was a fortified settlement. In the 19th century there were still remnants of a stone foundation. It is possible that there was a monastery, because it is mentioned in the 15th century. The source of delicious water has also been here for a long time.
According to legend, in 1948 a boy and three girls grazing cows nearby saw the Virgin Mary in the air. The adults who came later did not see anything, but the image of the Mother of God was reflected on the maple leaves, which people took to the homes. Later, a stone grotto was built there and a spring was designed.
Вчені вважають, що у часи давньої Русі тут було укріплене поселення. У 19 столітті ще існували залишки якогось кам'яного фундаменту (про це пише краєзнавець Яків Головацький).
Можливо існував і монастир, адже про нього згадується ще у 15 столітті. Згідно з легендою, у 1948 році хлопець і троє дівчат, що пасли корови неподалік, побачили у повітрі Діву Марію. Дорослі, які прийшли згодом, вже нічого не побачили, проте зображення Богоматері відбилося на кленових листках, які люди розібрали додому. Згодом там побудували кам'яний грот і оформили джерело.
An interesting fact! In the surrounding villages the water is very deep. For example, in my village (it is about 6 km from the mountain) the water is at a depth of 40 m, in another neighboring village in general 50 m. Therefore, the fact that on the Holy Mountain the water is so close (literally 2-3 meters), it is a miracle, even if you do not believe in Christian miracles.
Цікавий факт. У навколишніх селах вода знаходиться дуже глибоко. Наприклад, у моєму селі (це десь 6 км від гори) вода є на глибині 40 м, в іншому сусідньому селі взагалі 50 м. Тому те, що на Святій горі вода є так близько, це є чудо, навіть якщо ви не вірите у християнські чудеса.
The Soviet authorities did not like the fact that people often went to the mountain to pray. In 1972 (it's hard to believe, this is not even a war !!) with the help of heavy equipment, the stone chapel was smashed right on the holiday, the source was stoned and filled with concrete. But the effect was the opposite! People were even more drawn there. One girl, who was helped by prayers to undergo a difficult operation and recover, brought the icons up the mountain again and decorated them with embroidered towels. People made a temporary chapel out of wooden sticks.
Радянській владі дуже не подобалось те, що люди часто ходили на гору молитись. У 1972 році (важко повірити, це ж навіть не війна!!) за допомогою важкої техніки, прямо на свято кам'яну каплицю розбили, джерело закидали камінням і залили бетоном. Але ефект був протилежний! Люди ще більше туди потягнулися. Одна дівчина, якій молитви допомогли пройти важку операцію та одужати, знову занесла на гору ікони та прикрасила їх вишитими рушниками. Люди зробили тимчасову капличку із дерев'яних паличок.
There are many nice flowers on the monastery territory.
As a child, I walked here, through the woods with my mother, father and grandmother.
Already at the time of independence of our state, reconstruction began here. First, a house was built where several monks live, later electricity was installed here. A small wooden chapel was built here. But in about 2010 the ancient wooden church of St. Onuphrius (1774) was moved here from a distant mountain village. Yes, ancient Ukrainian churches could be assembled and disassembled as a designer and transported! Of course, we cannot see these old logs from the outside, because the temple is decorated with boards on top and inside. But on an intuitive level the spirit of antiquity is felt.
В дитинстві я ходила пішки, через ліси з мамою, татом та бабусею сюди.
Вже в часи незалежності нашої держави тут почали відбудову. Спочатку постав дім, де живе кілька монахів, згодом сюди провели електрику. Тут збудували маленьку дерев'яну каплицю. Але приблизно у 2010 сюди перевезли старовинну дерев'яну церкву святого Онуфрія (1774) із далекого гірського села. Так, давні українські церкви можна було збирати і розбирати як конструктор і перевозити! Звісно, ми ззовні не можемо побачити ці старі колоди, адже храм оздоблений зверху і всередині дошками. Але на інтуїтивному рівні відчувається дух старовини.
There are many beautiful wooden details in the interior of this church. And here it smells of wood, incense and wax.
Later, a chapel of the Belt of the Virgin Mary was also built here. It is here that all services are held in the summer. There are a rather many people here on Sunday. Although, of course, not everyone is present at the whole Liturgy! But there are people who want to collect water from the well all the time. People come here by car (it was more interesting for us to come on foot).
Згодом також тут побудували каплицю Положення пояса Діви Марії. Саме тут у літній час проводять усі служби. В неділю тут є трохи людей. Хоча не кожен звісно є присутній на цілій Літургії! Але бажаючі набрати води із кринички є постійно. Люди приїжджають сюди на авто (нам було цікавіше прийти від підніжжя пішки).
A wooden iconostasis with carved floral ornaments is a special decoration of Ukrainian churches. On the left in the photo is one of the favorite saints of our people, Onuphrius.
It is especially calm and cozy here. After the service we went to the statue of the Virgin Mary. Around here is a beautiful beech forest, very clean air and silence!
Тут особливо спокійно і затишно. Після служби ми пішли ще до статуї Діви Марії. Навколо тут прекрасний буковий ліс, дуже чисте повітря і тиша!
Later we had a snack. At the foot there is a recently made beautiful gazebo where pilgrims can eat. I liked its design. The main emphasis here is on black ceramics, which are made by hand in the neighboring village of Gavarechchyna. These are very beautiful and useful things. Now there are few masters left, but we want to make a tour there somehow.
Згодом у нас була перекуска. Внизу є недавно зроблена гарна альтанка, де прочани можуть поїсти. Мені подобалося її оформлення. Головний акцент тут на чорній кераміці, яку виробляють вручну в сусідньому селі Гавареччина. Це дуже гарні і корисні вироби. Зараз лишилося мало майстрів, але ми хочемо якось зробити екскурсію туди.
There was a girl in the gazebo, so we decided to sit on a rug in the woods and have a snack. We were joined by a monastery cat, which happily ate a few pieces of sausage. Since he ate bread and cheese reluctantly, we concluded that he was not very hungry. Apparently this is its job - to beg among tourists.
Альтанка була зайнята, тому ми вирішили посидіти на килимку у лісі і там перекусити. До нас приєднався монастирський кіт, який з радістю з'їв кілька шматків ковбаси. Оскільки хліб зі сиром він їв без бажання, то ми зробили висновок, що він не є голодний. Мабуть це його робота - жебракувати серед туристів.
Clouds were gradually gathering in the sky. Before that we had drought and heat, so rain was needed. But we still have plans to visit the lake... What to do? We decided to follow our plan! We went to the village of Ryzhany, where I have never been, it is about 15 km from the Holy Mountain. The lake was found intuitively (well, with the help of Google), because there were no marks.
На небі поступово збиралися хмари. Перед тим у нас була посуха і спека, тому дощ був потрібен. Але у нас в планах ще відвідини озера... Що робити? Вирішили слідувати своєму плану! Поїхали у село Рижани, де я ніколи не була, це десь за 15 км від Святої гори. Озеро знайшли інтуїтивно (ну і з допомогою Гугла), адже ніяких позначок не було.
There were quite a lot of people. However, the area is quite large, so we found our place. I liked it here, because the lake is shallow and you can cross it on foot. and I swim badly. The sun was increasingly hiding behind the clouds. It was not bad, because we didn't have umbrellas. Gradually thunder started from affar. We hoped that it would pass by.
Still, the storm drove all vacationers from the lake:)) Oh, as soon as we drove away, the rain, which lasted 10 minutes, ended. Well, but we saw a new good place. I hope to return there someday.
Людей було досить багато. Проте територія доволі велика, тому ми знайшли своє місце. Мені тут сподобалося, бо тут мілко і можна пішки перейти озеро, а я погано плаваю. Сонце все частіше ховалось за хмари. Це було непогано, адже парасольки ми не мали... Поступово в далині почався грім... Ми сподівалися, що він пройде стороною.
Все таки гроза вигнала усіх відпочиваючих з озера:)) Ех, як тільки ми від'їхали на машині, то дощ, який тривав 10 хвилин закінчився. Ну, зате ми побачили нове гарне місце. Сподіваюся колись туди повернутися надовше.

That's a beautiful trip up the mountains, and I love the chapel, especially how you can just take it apart, move it some place else and assemble it again, a bit like lego. It must have been lovely to visit with your parent and grandfather, and now with your daughter. Hopefully one day you can visit with your grandchild as well!!!
